A Little Bit of Romance

2 May

Now, we all know that it’s coming up to the wedding season and there has already been one HUGE wedding that everyone celebrated here in the UK. My manager and I decided to get into the romantic spirit of things this weekend and organised a Kissing Bench outside The Travel Bookshop (where I work). The premise of the idea was to ask couples, friends, families and others to post pictures of themselves re-interpreting the balcony kiss from Kate and William’s wedding last Friday and boy oh boy, were the results amazing! All of the kissers who we took pictures of or who posted them on our Facebook page have gone into a draw to win some lovely prizes (the winner will be chosen tomorrow, 3rd May). To help us choose the winner, please ‘Like’ your favourite photograph on our Facebook page!!

Here are a few of my personal favourites!!!

Franco and Teresa – he was such a suave old Italian man!! We loved him!

Chris and Lauren – very sweet couple!!

Gabriella and Simone made Andy a very happy man!!

This weekend has been such a lovely one – full of love and laughs and happiness! A big thank you goes out to everyone who decided to kiss for us as well! They are brilliant and if we could give prizes to everyone we would! So go and choose your favourite to help make our choosing of the winner a bit easier!

PS. Sorry for the lack of posts here – I’m coming back soon. Just a few more tweaks and things will be ready to start again! Thank you for sticking around!! xxx

The Last Wednesday Knitting Club

28 Oct

That’s my knitting club. Yep, that’s right, I run a knitting club. It’s on the last Wednesday of the month but I’m sure you guessed that from the name! Haha. I started it at the end of March and we are now approaching our last meeting before the New Year! Eeek! I’m having so much fun planning our end of year party though – there will be a few small surprises and lots of chatting and drinking! Hehe.

This is a little bit of an advertorial blog though, as I took the step of creating a Facebook group for The Last Wednesday Knitting Club and I would love people to join it! Click on the knitting picture below to be taken through to the page. Once you get there, you will be kept up-to-date with the latest goings on and any giveaways or important knitting information that we may have!

(PS. This is a picture I have taken. You can find it on my flickr if you would like to use it. Please remember to credit photographs wherever possible.)

I have a few exciting announcements to make soon about my knitting club but that has to wait until things have been confirmed and are set in stone! No point in letting people know something when it’s not 100% ready!

So for now, I will love you and leave you. Until the next blog post….

my new bag…

17 Oct

Now I’m an East London girl but I work part-time in West London and if I could, I would have a flat there as well! Recently, there has been a bit of buzz about a local project – the Notting Hill shopping bag. We stock them where I work and this weekend the bags have done phenomenally well! The bumpf from the official blog/website reads…

“The Notting Hill Shopping Bag is a cotton bag sold for £4 by shops and stalls across Notting Hill and Portobello Road Market. It features images designed by local schoolchildren and celebrities who live in, or love, Notting Hill.

The aims are to reduce plastic bag use in Notting Hill, to support local charities to whom 10 per cent of profits are donated, to promote Notting Hill and Portobello Road Market as a shopping destination and to boost income for stallholders and shopkeepers.”

A bag that gives back to the local community? Yes please!! One side of the bag looks like this…

the Notting Hill shopping bag.

But that isn’t all there is to it! On the other side is an image drawn by a local resident. The first bag was designed by a local schoolgirl, 11 year old Kemi from Colville Primary School. The second bag has been designed by someone with a bit more “star power” and that is songstress and Notting Hill resident, Natalie Imbruglia.

Cupcakes in Notting Hill by Natalie Imbruglia

Who doesn’t love cupcakes? My whole family are cupcake fanatics so what a perfect gift it makes! (Yes, I have bought some, all at full price. I don’t expect freebies or discounts to promote something like a lot of people do. And they’re £4! It’s not exactly expensive is it!?!?!)

Natasha, who runs the whole operation, is amazing! I can’t wait to see the next design in the series! All the bags are limited runs too and as well as being available in retail shops, such as The Travel Bookshop (you can buy them online there too), they are also available at the market stalls on Portobello Road! So, instead of using plastic to carry your fruit and veg in, you can walk away with a stylish and re-usable bag that you know is giving back and will continue to do so!

You can follow the Notting Hill shopping bag project tweets @NottingHillBag and also follow the blog (link above). Another lovely blogger, the Notting Hill Girl, also blogged about them today. Go and read her review of them and check out her blog (it’s lovely and fashion-y!!). So what are you waiting for? Go get yours now!

I have another good cause blog post this week. All I will say is that it involves my mum. Until then!

The Last Wednesday Knitting Club meets again!

29 Jun

It’s rolled around again and I’m sorry I’ve left it a bit late to blog about it. Life is crazy busy at the moment!

I still get excited when I get emails from new people wanting to come along! We average about 7-8 people per meeting each month and we can accommodate around 35 in the bookshop at a maximum number so we definitely still have room for new people attending! It’s such a feeling knowing that my little knitting club keeps growing each month! Yay!

Drop me an email if you do fancy attending though so I can keep track of numbers – jaqueline (at) craftyfoxes.co.uk. It’ll be great to see members old and new there! All skill levels are welcome too, so if you’re a complete beginner, don’t fret as there’s always someone on hand to help out! To those that I know will be coming, I look forward to seeing you all again! And to the newbies, I hope to see you there!

The Last Wednesday Knitting Club…

1 Apr

…IS OFFICIALLY OPEN!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! (Can you tell I’m happy? Haha)

Last night happened to be the inaugural meeting of The Last Wednesday Knitting Group at The Travel Bookshop, Notting Hill. As founder and organiser, I was sure that no-one was going to turn up and the scones I’d baked for the occasion would be solely eaten by me in between sobs over a failed venture! Haha. But alas, I was wrong! 6 people turned up (7 including myself) which I think for a first meeting was a very nice number indeed!! Here are a few photos from the evening.

Lots of knitting happened, lots of talking happened and (happily) lots of eating of scones happened! Hooray! Hehe. I always get nervous when I bake for people so I’m glad they were scoffed down with enthusiasm!

I’m so happy and relieved that the first meeting of The Last Wednesday Knitting Club went well and now I’m off to plan the next one! At least I have a month to do so this time! Haha. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for The Last Wednesday Knitting Club, email jaqueline(at)craftyfoxes(dot)co(dot)uk, and we’ll keep you informed of any special events and important dates in The Last Wednesday Knitting Club diary!

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the lovely, lovely ladies that came last night and I hope to see many more ladies (and men, you’re welcome too!!) at the next meeting! And a ma-hoo-sive thank you to Saara for the use of The Travel Bookshop (you’re amazing!). Right, now it’s time for me to get some more knitting done!

New Challenges:New Starts:New Prospects

20 Mar

Ever since my birthday happened at the beginning of this month, things have been on the up. I’ve been getting support from avenues I had almost given up on and new challenges and prospects have presented themselves to me in the form of some very exciting things!

Number 1 –

I’ve enrolled on a 10 week Silkscreen and Printmaking Workshop and I’m very excited about it! I’ve done linocut printing before but have always wanted to learn how to screen print and make other kinds of prints. I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons in terms of the crafts I am able in and I can’t wait to finally add printmaker to that list!

Number 2 –

This is the most exciting new challenge for me by far. I’M STARTING UP A KNITTING GROUP!!! Yes, a real-life knitting group where actual people (I hope) meet up for a couple of hours a month to chat, knit and generally have a good time. It’s called The Last Wednesday Knitting Group because, surprise surprise, it’s held on the last Wednesday of every month! Hehe. The first one is 31st March, just over a week away. If live in the London (UK) area and are interested in coming along, here are the details:

When: 31st March 2010, from 6pm-8:30pm
Where: The Travel Bookshop, 13-15 Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill, London, W11 2EE
Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate//Ladbroke Grove (about a 5-10 minute walk from each)
Nearest Bus: 5245223770228 (go here to see where the buses stop)

There is no need to bring anything apart from your wool and knitting/crochet/etc…we will be able to teach the basic stitches to learners and refreshments will be available. As this is the launch night, it will be quite informal and we can discuss any requests and questions new members have about how the group will run, special events, etc…

My boyfriend is currently designing the poster for the knitting group and as soon as it’s finished I’ll be posting it here!! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jaqueline(at)craftyfoxes(dot)co(dot)uk or leave a comment on the blog. And if anyone has any really good tips to help me run this baby smoothly, they will be very much appreciated!!

I have a few more exciting things in the wings however I’m going to save those for another post  – one of them will be a new feature soon so I don’t want to ruin the surprise just yet! Right time for me to go to bed. I’m up early tomorrow (yes, up early on a Sunday) so I need some beauty sleeps! Haha.
