Tag Archives: Super Secret Plan

Hey!

31 Aug

As you may have noticed, my posting here has been pretty sporadic lately. I’ve been dealing with some personal issues and have recently started a new job as a classroom assistant, which is challenging but enjoyable! It’s giving me new challenges to face each day I’m at work and I know I’m not going to have to deal with repetitive tasks (apart from maybe lesson plans) day in day out. Teaching is something I’ve had an interest in for a long time and I’ve recently made the decision to apply for a PGCE to teach Media Studies to 14-19 year olds! I’m currently in the process of writing out my personal statement and wondering how I can get it down to 47 lines!! Haha. I’ll get there eventually….

I’ve also been busy with my crafty escapades, some of which I’m still planning and some of which are soon-to-be-announced-but-currently-secret-squirrel-business. The only thing I can share is that it is a collaboration with an amazing lady – see if you can guess who it is (although I won’t tell until we decide to go public and you won’t win any prizes, sorry! Haha).

I’ve still been trying to keep up-to-date with all the blogs though and have seen some serious inspiration lately. It’s one thing I love about the blogging community…you’re never far away from something to brighten your day, make you look at things in a new light or spark a really good idea!! A few of my favourite pictures found either via blogs or flickr from the past few weeks…

(By the way, if anyone feels like being generous and buying me this necklace I’ll love you forever and a day! Well, I have to be a little cheeky here, haha! And it’s only $57.50 including shipping to the UK!)

I’ve also been spending quite a bit of time with friends old and new. It’s been great getting out of the house on nice days and wandering around various parts of London, searching for places and objects and coming across random jumble sales and things that would look great in my room/house!

Autumn is almost here too and I’m so in the mood for jumpers and woolly knit hats. And toffee nut lattes. We don’t get pumpkin spice over here which I’m a bit bummed out about but hopefully I’ll get to taste it one day! I’ll be back again soon with more of my alphabet and more posts about what I’m up to! I’ve missed you all and thanks for continuing to visit The Crafty Foxes!

G is for Good

17 Jul

Good is a word that I don’t like to overuse as I find that after a while it loses it’s meaning but recently (aside from the odd bad day we are all entitled too) things in my life have been good. Not great. Not awful. Just good. It’s been a long time coming so I’m happy with things just going good. For this post, I’ve decided to list all the good things in my life, so I hope you enjoy and can celebrate a few things with me and maybe inspire you to see that good is fine. Good is good!

1) I’ve been making more friends within the crafty community (thank you BUST Craftacular London and The Last Wednesday Knitting Club!) It’s taken me a long time to even feel confident enough to talk to people I admire but once I mustered up the nerve contacts and friendships have occurred. One of the best things about this is that as a new starter in business I now have a nice group of people that I know I can email or call if need be to ask them a question.

2) My products are now available for sale in a retail shop!! Yes, you heard. I have an official stockist in an official real life shop you can walk into and everything!! Haha. I dropped the finished products off today, so as of Monday (I think) you will be able to buy Crafty Foxes handmade accessories at The Shop @ Discover Greenwich. It’s such an exciting thing for me and is part of the reason why I’ve been so absent from here lately. I wanted to put my all into this first order to make sure it was up to standard. I’m at a wee bit of a loss now that I don’t have 20 brooches to hand sew in 3 hours, haha!! From now on though I have the knowledge I need to get me through subsequent orders and re-orders that I can work better and more efficiently.

3) I’m planning a mini craft fair for the end of August. This is as much as I can reveal right now. More information will be here next week! It’s another exciting phase of the Crafty Foxes story!!

4) I have finally been offered a teaching assistant job. It’s 16-24 year olds which scares me a little bit but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s 25 hours a week for 6 months and adds a bit more routine to my life which has been more than a little bit chaotic in the last 6 months. I can’t wait to start and I’ll let you know how my first week goes when it’s done. Hopefully after the initial 6 months is up I’ll be kept on!

5) I had a really good day with my parents today. I haven’t really spent time with both of them for a while so it was nice to be able to. I miss them and don’t visit half as much as I should but they do come to London quite a bit so I’m lucky in that respect. We had a pub lunch that was memorable to say the least (“I’m not stoned anymore!”) but it was nice just to catch up and know that my parents are proud of the hard work I’ve been putting into my business and my products and support me every step of the way.

I hope you, my lovely blog readers, are well and I’ll elaborate on more things over this coming week (craft fair and other exciting announcements). It’s been great seeing that people are still reading during my absence and that my blog is attracting new readers all the time too! Hello and love to you all! I hope you’re having a good weekend!

I’m Not Myself Right Now

30 Apr

I’m having a hard time blogging lately. I just don’t find myself very inspired to do so. I know a few other bloggers have felt this way recently so it’s not something that bothers me too much but I just thought you, my readers should get a reason to why I’m not posting here.

It’s funny though. Mentally I feel better than I have done in a very long time. I’ve been going to the gym regularly and eating better, and found that it’s really helped! However my health itself is annoying me right now – my liver has decided to play up for some reason so I’m having to go for yet another blood test (this will be my third) and an ultrasound. To be honest, I’m a bit scared. Not only about the blood test, due to my MASSIVE medical needle phobia but about my health. This is the first time I’ve had any tests like this done. I’ve had a few teary moments about it and have thought of all the things it could possibly be or not be (and googled them, haha. Why do we do it?). Hopefully the tests come back conclusively with something this time round and I can move on with a treatment, etc…to fix the problem. I guess it’s the worrying that’s affecting my motivation and taking my mind off doing things here.

I do also have another reason why I’ve been absent. I have been asked to come up with product samples for a small shop – all original and exclusive Crafty Foxes designs to fit with the themes of the shop itself. I have just under two weeks to get them ready and will posts sneak peaks here as soon as I can and will announce the store once they’ve decided on the products to stock. It’s very exciting as I only set up my online shop recently and hopefully this will lead onto bigger and better things!

Sorry this isn’t such a picture heavy post but if I manage to get a good amount of samples made over the next two weeks then I will post more here. Hopefully my product research will help with that! I hope you are all well and enjoying yourselves right now.

It’s almost ready!

15 Apr

“What’s almost ready?” I hear you ask.

THE CRAFTY FOXES ONLINE SHOP, THAT’S WHAT!!!!

Yes, I’m opening an online shop. I’ve been a busy bee lately making things, calling on friends to model for me (and wishing away the overcast days that have taken over the skies when I want to take photos), getting my shop banner ready (although you’ll have to wait until the shop launch for that), and all sorts of other things involved with getting an online shop up and running. It’ll be an Etsy shop, which I know many of you already use and love.

To celebrate this grand opening, I’m offering you, my lovely blog readers, a few special launch products exclusively through my blog. I have 7 brooch/ring and brooch/earring sets at a special launch price! Some of the items will be repeated on Etsy individually, others are one-of-a-kind created especially for you guys and gals! Remember, these sets will not be listed in the Crafty Foxes Etsy shop so get them before it’s too late!!

Thank you so much for putting up with me and my lack of posting here over the last few weeks. As anyone understands, starting up a small business venture isn’t an easy thing to do! But now the ball is rolling I’ll be here as usual with my inspirations and rants and whatever else I fancy posting about. I’ll also be back in a few days with the official opening of the Crafty Foxes Etsy shop! Eeeeeek!!! Love you all!!

New Challenges:New Starts:New Prospects

20 Mar

Ever since my birthday happened at the beginning of this month, things have been on the up. I’ve been getting support from avenues I had almost given up on and new challenges and prospects have presented themselves to me in the form of some very exciting things!

Number 1 –

I’ve enrolled on a 10 week Silkscreen and Printmaking Workshop and I’m very excited about it! I’ve done linocut printing before but have always wanted to learn how to screen print and make other kinds of prints. I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons in terms of the crafts I am able in and I can’t wait to finally add printmaker to that list!

Number 2 –

This is the most exciting new challenge for me by far. I’M STARTING UP A KNITTING GROUP!!! Yes, a real-life knitting group where actual people (I hope) meet up for a couple of hours a month to chat, knit and generally have a good time. It’s called The Last Wednesday Knitting Group because, surprise surprise, it’s held on the last Wednesday of every month! Hehe. The first one is 31st March, just over a week away. If live in the London (UK) area and are interested in coming along, here are the details:

When: 31st March 2010, from 6pm-8:30pm
Where: The Travel Bookshop, 13-15 Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill, London, W11 2EE
Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate//Ladbroke Grove (about a 5-10 minute walk from each)
Nearest Bus: 5245223770228 (go here to see where the buses stop)

There is no need to bring anything apart from your wool and knitting/crochet/etc…we will be able to teach the basic stitches to learners and refreshments will be available. As this is the launch night, it will be quite informal and we can discuss any requests and questions new members have about how the group will run, special events, etc…

My boyfriend is currently designing the poster for the knitting group and as soon as it’s finished I’ll be posting it here!! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jaqueline(at)craftyfoxes(dot)co(dot)uk or leave a comment on the blog. And if anyone has any really good tips to help me run this baby smoothly, they will be very much appreciated!!

I have a few more exciting things in the wings however I’m going to save those for another post  – one of them will be a new feature soon so I don’t want to ruin the surprise just yet! Right time for me to go to bed. I’m up early tomorrow (yes, up early on a Sunday) so I need some beauty sleeps! Haha.

Remember those days…

16 Sep

When all you had to do was learn how to read and write (and in my case make sure the teacher was teaching me to spell my name properly!)? I recently went home for a few days and as per usual, I rummaged through a few boxes of stuff that is lying around my parents house. Is it just me or is there something really magical about going through boxes of old things? I love it and always find something new (or old) that I didn’t know about or forgot about as is usually the case!

This time a found a couple of things I forgot I had like these

Remember these? My "Great Greetings" Tomy Fashion Plate, Magic Squares and Shrinky Dink earrings

Remember these? My "Great Greetings" Tomy Fashion Plate, Magic Squares and Shrinky Dink earrings

The Tomy Fashion Plate was probably one of my most used toys as a kid. All you did was place the rub stencils onto the middle of the plate, put your piece of paper on top, close the lid and rub away! Hey, presto you have a drawing to colour in!

I also found this great book that my mum has had for over 30 years

Touch Typewriting by Pitman Press

Touch Typewriting by Pitman Press

We read through this and some of the wording is hilarious! It tells you to ‘strike the keys’ and one letter tells the student to ‘hasten his speed’ when he types in order to not make any mistakes. I wish I’d written down some of the sentences but believe me, you just crack up when you read it!

My time at my parents house was also spent doing a bit of thrifting. I found these in one of the local charity shops for the unbelievable sum of £1.30!

My gorgeous thrifted bowls and a few crocheted headbands for good measure!

My gorgeous thrifted bowls and a few crocheted headbands for good measure!

I love the colouring and the pattern on these and what a bargain! The headbands are ones that I’ve crocheted myself after recently learning how to. If I’d known how easy it was to begin with, I would have been doing it ages ago! I think I’m one of those people who understands it better than knitting although I’m not giving knitting up just yet as I have a couple of things I want to knit before fall and winter really take hold of the climate.

I’ll be posting again sometime this week as I have more I want to say and show you all but don’t have enough time right now to say and show it. What did you love as a kid and what kind of stuff have you found when rumaging through boxes of old stuff?

It’s time now for me to get on with the first project from the RVA Autumn Class. I’m sooo excited and happy that it’s started now! Inspiration and craftiness, ahoy!

September is here…

1 Sep

I can’t believe it!! This year has gone sooooo quickly. This time last year I was single, living somewhere else and hadn’t even considered craft as a career or hobby, let alone had a blog. Now I’m living with my other half in central London and craft has become an integral part of my life, from the blogs I read to what I do in my spare time! And my blog, which I started 6 months ago has almost reached 2000 hits! CRAZY!!!! But thank you for reading whoever you are (I know who a few people are though, haha, and thank you too!).

I thought that in this post I would share a few things I’ve been getting excited about recently. Maybe other people who read this will be excited about the things I blog on here too!

1) The things I bought from the BUST London Craftacular

Yummy crafty booty from the BUST London Craftacular

Yummy crafty booty from the BUST London Craftacular

Notebook by Kali Taylor Mittmann (kali_v23@yahoo.com) – the image on the front and back cover is a sewing machine and the notebook is completely handmade.

Bird print and little ‘bag o’birds’ by Little Doodles (also here) – I was hoping to get the ‘Blusher Bird’ print but it wasn’t there so I opted for this one which I’m as happy with. The little ‘bag o’birds’ contained stickers, magnets and other birdy ephemera. A really cute little package and I wish I’d picked up a few more!!

‘Swallows’ Print Gocco and ‘Fairground Wonder’ Print Gocco by Xtina Lamb – a different version of the swallows print was in the raffle and I fell in love with it (as did my sister). I loved the colours and subject of the fairgound print so picked up that one as well.

Mini anchor pin/brooch by Lost At Sea – this shop was a favourite before I went to the Craftacular and I was determined to get something from them and this little anchor pin was the perfect thing for me!

2) Red Velvet Art Autumn Craft Class

Starts in 2 weeks!!

Starts in 2 weeks!!

Rachel and Elsie of Red Velvet Art are running another one of their ever popular craft classes (some spots still available here) and I’m taking part! My lovely boyfriend signed me up for our anniversary (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!) and I’m so excited about it starting! I’ve been stockpiling everything I’ll need to make my chosen first projects and still have a few things to get. The class has also been inspiring my autumnal side and I’ve been obsessed with everything autumn and autumn coloured for about 2 weeks now.

2010 planner kit

I also ordered this and can’t wait for it to arrive so I can get planning for my crafty year ahead. I’ve decided that this will be my Craft planner/diary as my current filofax gets filled up with random stuff and it’ll be nice to have a craft/work divide!

3) ??????

Tell me what inspires you. I’ve been finding so many new blogs lately and sometimes it’s all so overwhelming that there are so many creative types out there that are doing things I would love to be creating and are inspiring me no-end. I’ve also got a super secret plan in the works right now and need to really set aside time to be creative and make things. I’ll blog here about the super secret plan when the time is right but until then you’ll just have to make do with my random ramblings!
