Crafty Foxes Christmas Wants

29 Nov

If you are a follower of my Twitter, you will see that I’ve been updating periodically with a number of Christmas Wants. Some of these are personal choices that I would love for myself, others are amazing things I’ve come across and think would make perfect gifts. I have tried to categorise each time I post but sometimes I post whatever I find at the time!

I’ve decided to post them on here as many places will have shipping deadlines and if you fancy any of these as gifts you’ll need to get them soon! I’m posting from most recent tweets as well, hence the backward running order!

Christmas Want 12: Channel your inner Classic Hollywood starlet in this beautiful capelet. Feathers are officially in. http://etsy.me/e1umEP

Christmas Want 11: A @giantdwarf Starlette Crown is the perfect way to accessorise this holiday season! http://etsy.me/ftwCCd

Christmas Want 10: Power women + fashion accessories = Cleo Ferin’s creations. I’m particularly fond of Calamity Jane…http://bit.ly/eUELUB

Christmas Want 9: For the little ones…something from Little Sapling Toys. Gorgeous wood toys and teething rings!http://etsy.me/hhwQKs

Christmas Want 8: This amazing metal antler hook from Formed&Found on @poppytalk ‘s handmade gift list! Perfect!http://bit.ly/evfT2o

Christmas Want 7: @skunkboy ‘s ridiculously cute owl ornament! This is a personal want, for sure! http://etsy.me/hw5Dxs (These have now sold out but there a few other very cute bits and pieces in the shop)

Christmas Want 6: Who doesn’t want a bow tie from @hidinginhere‘s Forage collection?! They are perfect in every way – http://forage.bigcartel.com/

Christmas Want 5: The perfect vintage knitting accessory. Keep those paws off your project in a vintage yarn holder!http://etsy.me/fZGpBv

Christmas Want 4: Always wanted a beard but not the hassle of growing one? Problem solved! http://etsy.me/fy9ovC

Christmas Want 3: Cupcake Kitten Hat Knitting Pattern by tinyowlknits (I’m knitting the deer hat pattern now!)http://etsy.me/af42sj (I actually bought this and am looking forward to knitting it up after Christmas – I’ve requested the wool as one of my gifties!)

Christmas Want 2: Original Silhouette Antlers ink drawing by @CharmaineOlivia http://etsy.me/9QzZmj

Christmas Want 1: Color Wheel Necklace from @yellowowlwkshop http://yellowowlworkshop.com/pendants.html

Now some of these gifts definitely blow the budget, others are very reasonably priced. The one thing you will recognise about all of these though is that they are all HANDMADE! Each and every item is supporting an artist, crafter or otherwise and I think that at Christmas time this is important. And when you give something like one of these gifts to your loved one/s they will know that you took the time and effort to find something special!

I can’t believe that it’s almost December (1 day away!!). This year has flown by sooooooo quickly and I can’t quite believe the year that I’ve had. Ups and downs, and I’m slightly glad it’s coming to an end. Although there are plenty of things that went well this year it’s possibly been the worst year of my life so far…but that’s for another post!!!

To end on a high, I’ll be posting a little more regularly again soon. I’m busy trying to make all my Christmas gifts but my fingers need a break from sewing, knitting and other crafty escapades and the computer has become that! Hehe. Until then….

A Few Lovelies From The Inty-Web

7 Sep

Hello Foxes and Foxettes!

I have recently been perusing the interweb for the latest lovelies to offer you here at Crafty Foxes Central. You may have seen these on other blogs, you may know of them already from magazines or you may actually be the people I’m featuring (and if that’s the case say hi!). I am slowly changing the look of this blog, introducing new features and integrating into another server eventually (the alphabet is still the deadline for this and I will be continuing with that series soon!!).

In the meantime, enjoy the links and pictures I have found! (Each image can be clicked on to take you through to the artist/crafter/magazine website)

Bindi Booth – just lovely!

Artemis Russell’s wedding photo’s – so amazing!

Nathalie Lete – lovely handtufted rugs that look like paint by numbers pictures!

Louise Evans – she makes Super Duper Things! (Also the name of her Etsy shop!)

Lune Vintage – loving those deer legwarmers!!

Art Equals Happy – I love this picture of Kim! She looks so purdy! (And will probably not agree with me but I don’t care! I Love You and am glad you’re my real life friend!!)

Girls in a Bottle from A Print A Day – In Love!

Frankie 2011 Diary – I’m looking for a new one and would like this one please!

Inga Birgisdottir – Funny illustrations that make me want to take a cut out moustache everywhere with me!! (This image was taken from Creature Comforts blog)

Sophie Blackall – I saw this series featured recently in Oh Comely magazine here in the UK and straight after she has popped up all over the place, on blogs far and wide! I love the owl.

The Gluttonous Vegan – Yum. That is all.

And finally, A Beautiful Mess (Elsie Flannigan) – who doesn’t love plaid and florals in Autumn? The leaves haven’t quite turned yet but there is a chill in the air and it’s raining a lot more here in London. Can’t wait to get myself a nice warm flannel shirt that I can wear with jeans and wool tights and thick woolen skirts!

I do hope you’ve enjoyed these little bits and pieces and I’ll be back soon with more.

Pretty Things Thursday

21 Jan

I can’t believe that Thursday has come around yet again! January seems to be going by so quickly too, it’s crazy!! I’ve been doing a few things this week but one recurrent activity has been knitting my boyfriend’s scarf. This is what it looks like so far…

Boyfriend's Scarf....so far

I found the pattern on Ravelry (click image for original pattern), which has recently become my best friend EVER! Haha. I’ve been searching specifically for fingerless glove/mitten patterns (and then being distracted by Selbu mittens), as those are the next on my project list. So this Pretty Things Thursday is dedicated to pretty knitting patterns! I’ve found a few patterns I want to try out below.

(Yes, both patterns have been knit with Noro yarn. My current favourite yarn in the whole wide world! Loves!)

I love Totoro and as soon as I’m good enough and learn to knit Selbu mittens these will be mine, all mine!

I absolutely love the colour of these socks and would love to have a pair exactly like these!!

This cute little owly number is for a pair of fingerless mittens. To be honest I really want to start these now, but I know that if I do I’ll become a woman obsessed and won’t finish anything else, haha! So these are a little treat for me for as soon as everything else has been done.

I really love the pattern that’s been created when knitting up this bag and would love to have something like this to carry around in the spring/summer time. Although it would look just as appealing in autumn/winter too!

(All images link to their Ravelry pattern. Most of the patterns are free but require a Ravelry account to access them. Signing up to Ravelry is free so why not do it already? If you haven’t that is, hehe.)

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this Thursday! I’m going to continue with my boyfriend’s scarf and hopefully get it finished by next week sometime. Then I only have another scarf to knit for my brother-in-law, fingerless gloves to crochet for my auntie, and countless hat, scarf and glove projects for both myself and others! Fun times ahead. Yay!

Let me know what WiP’s (works-in-progress) you have right now and link here to any pretty patterns you’ve found lately! I’d love to see them!

Times they are a-changing…

30 Dec

I have been very vacant from here over the last month and I apologise to those who actually read my blog on a regular basis (if there are any of you out there!). December has been a very tough month for me and not one that was particularly enjoyable. In fact 2009 has been my least favourite year in a lot of ways, both personally and professionally, although I do have plenty of good things to look back on.

So now I am setting my goals for 2010 and making sure that this year is mine. I decide what happens (save for those things that you really can’t plan for) and I make it the best year so far. I turn 24 in March and there are a few things that I would like to do before I turn 25, so yes I will be making a “24 things to do before I turn 25” list, hehe. I also want to FINALLY get the Crafty Foxes shop up and running online, participate in a few craft fairs and take a few classes (and maybe even by the end of the year run my own class somewhere in something I am still yet to decide). But these things are all still ideas and everything takes time and needs some forward planning and thinking. Once they are completely ready, I’ll be sure to share them here first.

But now onto some cool stuff. As we all know it was Christmas 4 days ago (only 361 to go until the next, haha). I was most fortunate to receive some awesome presents from my awesome family and boyfriend. They included…

*a year’s subscription to BUST Magazine (Yes, my boyfriend rocks…and I’m going to be in the next one too – he didn’t want me missing out on it, hehe).

*the I Love You Owl! Craft Kit from Red Velvet Art, courtesy of my boyfriends parents

*lots and lots of crafty bits  – my parents also gave me my first thimble and my first sewing machine this year too!! I got my sewing machine in August as an early gift and it’s already been used an awful lot.

Brownie Owl

*lots of wool – my sister and brother-in-law got me a shopping bag full, my cousin got me a couple of nice balls and my boyfriend got me this amazing Aran Wensleydale Longwool from the wool shop round the corner from us. The one thing I love about Prick Your Finger is that they support British farmers, so I know that this wool is friendly to the environment as well as helping to sustain local economies and small businesses (I spent my early years growing up on a farm and would one day like to own some sheep and have a working farm – and be able to spin my own wool, hehe).

*I got lots of other little things as well like chocolate, a calendar and a cute cupcake moneybox. But one of the coolest things was my first pair of pinking shears from my auntie and uncle. My mum still has her first pair, so I’m looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with mine!!

I know this post isn’t as picture heavy as usual, but I will soon be back with more photos of the holidays, the BUST London Christmas Craftacular and lots more stories about what’s been happening with me and my crafty self. One of my goals for 2010 is to post a new blog at least 3 times a week! I’m trying to get back into the habit now before the New Year so it makes it a little easier! And I definitely have a lot to blog about now!

Until then my lovely blog readers…

Pretty Things Thursday

12 Nov

I’m early with this one today as it’s back to work time for me after two whole weeks of nothing! No-one looks forward to going back to work but we all have to do it!! So, I’m going to kick off straight away as there are a few things I have to do before I go to work and I don’t want to miss this week!! (click on images for credit/links)

This lovely print and notebook are from an artist called Alice Melvin. I found her stuff at the Tate Modern yesterday and subsequently fell in love. Particularly with this…

Yes those are owl hand and finger puppets that you cut out and sew together. I’m determined once payday comes to own this (owl obsession – CHECK! Haha).

Dottie Angel

Dottie Angel Studio

Tif over at Dottie Angel has provided me with hours and hours of inspiration lately. I love just looking though her photos on flickr as they’re just really pretty and she has quite a few good little ideas on there too. I’ve been uhmming and aahing about whether to join her “challenge of an utmost kind” and have decided to take the plunge in the new year. This is the challenge if you also choose to accept…

Pretty colours

I love the colours in this photo. Janel posted it earlier this week and I fell in love. Also, it’s a picture of wool and granny squares. What’s NOT to love? Hehe.

Penguin ornament

I’m majorly in love with everything Katie over at Skunkboy Creatures makes right now. Her ornaments are the cutest things in the world as are the rest of her plushies. I dream of one day having a small (okay, large) collection of her plushies in a corner of my craft room as inspiration to make really cute things!!

So that is all for this week. I could add more but then I’d not have anything left to blog about on Pretty Things Thursday next week!!! Hope everyone has had a good week and is looking forward to fun plans this weekend.

The Sunday Round Up

19 Oct

I know it’s Monday so this is technically the Monday Round Up, but I’m keeping the name as Sunday. I had all intentions of posting last night but I had a busy day and then went to a friend’s house and stayed a wee bit later than I said I would, got home and just went to bed.

So what’s been going on this week? I’ve managed to crochet myself a pair of fingerless mittens!

Fingerless mittens!

These are my practice pair – as you can see I managed to make to one on the left a little bit smaller (it was my first one though!!) I’ve got to make a pair for a friend at work so this was good practice for me and gives me a pair of fingerless mittens that make me feel good because I made them! I’m going to add a small crochet flower to each of them too, to give them that extra something.

I went a bit flickr crazy as well this weekend and added loads of pictures to my favourites. Here are a few of them…

Norwegian Wood

Lots of lovely yarn

Perler leaves

These three photos definitely catalogue my main obsessions right now – owls, wool/yarn and Perler/Hama beads. I can’t get enough of them and love just being able to create with the latter two and finding cute owls to add to my collection wherever I travel.

I also have a small collaboration in the works with my boyfriend as he came up with some great ideas for things to sell in my shop – just over a month to go until it’s live!! I can’t wait. This month is going to be a busy one I’m sure.

On another note…..

Christmas Craftacular!!

IT’S BACK!! And I’ll be helping out again, yay! I had so much fun helping at the summer one that of course I would jump at the opportunity to help again. It’s at York Hall in Bethnal Green again, entry £2, goodie bags, 12pm-7pm. December 12th is a Saturday and if you’re struggling to find that perfect gift for someone this will be a great place to find it!

Vendor applications close on 6th November so apply away. Still have over 2 weeks to do so and it is such a great opportunity. Don’t miss out!! Although I would have loved to have had a stall, it’s still not financially viable for me right now – I need to build up a stall fund or something!! Haha.

So, that’s your day-late Sunday Round Up! I’m off to crochet some granny squares before I go to work. I’ve got a whole morning as I’m on the late shift which doesn’t start until 1.45pm!
