The Last Wednesday Knitting Club

28 Oct

That’s my knitting club. Yep, that’s right, I run a knitting club. It’s on the last Wednesday of the month but I’m sure you guessed that from the name! Haha. I started it at the end of March and we are now approaching our last meeting before the New Year! Eeek! I’m having so much fun planning our end of year party though – there will be a few small surprises and lots of chatting and drinking! Hehe.

This is a little bit of an advertorial blog though, as I took the step of creating a Facebook group for The Last Wednesday Knitting Club and I would love people to join it! Click on the knitting picture below to be taken through to the page. Once you get there, you will be kept up-to-date with the latest goings on and any giveaways or important knitting information that we may have!

(PS. This is a picture I have taken. You can find it on my flickr if you would like to use it. Please remember to credit photographs wherever possible.)

I have a few exciting announcements to make soon about my knitting club but that has to wait until things have been confirmed and are set in stone! No point in letting people know something when it’s not 100% ready!

So for now, I will love you and leave you. Until the next blog post….

It’s Change All ‘Round!

7 May

After what has been a tough few weeks for me, things are looking better once again. I’m one step closer to getting answers for my illness…this needle-phobe survived another blood test! Wahoo! I was told though that I have wiggly veins, which I take to mean that once they see the needle coming towards them they run away and hide, haha! The phlebotomist had to “fish around” to find it. I definitely felt that part!!

I’m also getting my last two wisdom teeth taken out in a few weeks. No wisdom in old age for me! Haha. I’m not looking forward to the recovery. I remember what it was like last time, but ultimately it means no more uber annoying toothache every few weeks. Hooray! It’ll help with my weight loss too, huzzah! (And before anyone says anything I know it’s not a sensible thing to say or do, I’m just making light of not being able to eat properly for a week!) It also means that I won’t be doing much talking at the next meeting of The Last Wednesday Knitting Club but I’m definitely still coming along. I’m not missing a meeting for anything!!

Things are also changing around here too. I’ve made the decision to move my blog to another host. Whilst I love WordPress and all it has to offer, I’ve found another host that offers what I want in terms of the direction I am currently taking my craft and business in. It’s an exciting time for me right now and I will unveil everything as soon as it is ready……….it won’t be for a while yet as it’s still in the early stages but it is something that will definitely be happening!!

Things are a little hectic right now, but thank you so much for putting up with me during this sometimes difficult, yet exciting time in my life!! I’m feeling a little more relaxed now about my life and I’m finally finding my feet. Thank you for being such supportive blog readers and friends!! I’ll be back soon with more updates and regular features. I hope you’re all well and enjoying life!!

P.S. I couldn’t not mention the UK elections in this. Who’s with me for moving to America? Hehe.

The Last Wednesday Knitting Club…

1 Apr

…IS OFFICIALLY OPEN!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! (Can you tell I’m happy? Haha)

Last night happened to be the inaugural meeting of The Last Wednesday Knitting Group at The Travel Bookshop, Notting Hill. As founder and organiser, I was sure that no-one was going to turn up and the scones I’d baked for the occasion would be solely eaten by me in between sobs over a failed venture! Haha. But alas, I was wrong! 6 people turned up (7 including myself) which I think for a first meeting was a very nice number indeed!! Here are a few photos from the evening.

Lots of knitting happened, lots of talking happened and (happily) lots of eating of scones happened! Hooray! Hehe. I always get nervous when I bake for people so I’m glad they were scoffed down with enthusiasm!

I’m so happy and relieved that the first meeting of The Last Wednesday Knitting Club went well and now I’m off to plan the next one! At least I have a month to do so this time! Haha. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for The Last Wednesday Knitting Club, email jaqueline(at)craftyfoxes(dot)co(dot)uk, and we’ll keep you informed of any special events and important dates in The Last Wednesday Knitting Club diary!

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the lovely, lovely ladies that came last night and I hope to see many more ladies (and men, you’re welcome too!!) at the next meeting! And a ma-hoo-sive thank you to Saara for the use of The Travel Bookshop (you’re amazing!). Right, now it’s time for me to get some more knitting done!

Collection Loves

29 Mar

Everyone has their collections. Some people love toy cameras like Holga, Diana and Polaroid…

Other people love fabrics – ginghams, florals, block colours and Japanese prints…

Me? Well my collections revolve around a few key areas.

Buttons…

These are a few of my favourite buttons I’ve bought/found/been given over the last couple of years. I love it when I find big cards of vintage buttons for amazingly cheap prices (like the one in the middle was about £3!!). The antique market at Spitalfields has to be one of my new favourite places to find vinatge buttons. Covent Garden market is good also.

Postcards…

Postcards have been in my collectors box for quite a while. When I was at university I often used to go to the Kingston Antique Market and rifle through the boxes and boxes of old postcards they had. I also picked up a few when I was in Paris a few years ago that I absolutely love. The thing I like most about vintage postcards are the messages that are sometimes written on them. One I found in Paris had a message from one girl to another along the lines of making sure she showed her “appreciation” to her husband when he came back from his army service! Hehe.

Wool…

Everyone knows I love wool. It’s not so much something I collect to keep and look at but I do tend to buy a skein if it’s in a particularly attractive colour and I can afford it! All of the skeins will be used for projects though, it’s just deciding what I want to make with them that’s the problem!

and Notebooks…

All bar two of the above notebooks have something written in them. Most I have bought, others I have been given for free or have been freebies at events I have gone to. I used to work for Paperchase and received quite a nice staff discount which meant that I built up quite to collection. I can go for months without buying any but then sometimes there will be a few I see in quick succession and I’ll get all of them! Each notebook that I use is filled with things from personal thoughts and poems to business ideas and plans. They all have a purpose and help me to keep things in my life organised.

A couple of other areas I collect in include stickers and stamps. I have quite a few sticker albums from my childhood that I can’t bear to throw away and have found some sweet stickers in them too, after looking back through them as an adult. My stamp collecting was something I also did during the majority of my childhood  – I’m not a philatelist as I do not/never studied the stamps (philately is the study of stamps), but I enjoyed finding and receiving new stamps. It’s why I had so many penpals during my late tween (I hate that word so much) and early teen years. I also have a few first issues amongst my collection (they were my special treats from my parents and grandparents usually).

So there you go! A few little collections for you that I thought I would finally share with you all!

On a completely different note, I now have 2 blogs!! If you are interested in London, walking and style, Urban Glambling will surely be a must read for you. My sister and I have been urban rambling around London for just over a month now and we decided to set up a blog as a way to document each of our trips. It’s currently a blog-in-progress so excuse the lack of posting – we’ll soon have it looking amazing!

I hope you all had a good weekend and have a great week planned ahead! The Last Wednesday Knitting Club launches this Wednesday at The Travel Bookshop, and I’m very excited and will be baking to provide some tasty treats to those who come along! Eeeek! Hehe. Please come along if you get the chance, it’ll be lovely to meet some of the London blogging community!

Anyway, that is all for now. See you back here soon!

New Challenges:New Starts:New Prospects

20 Mar

Ever since my birthday happened at the beginning of this month, things have been on the up. I’ve been getting support from avenues I had almost given up on and new challenges and prospects have presented themselves to me in the form of some very exciting things!

Number 1 –

I’ve enrolled on a 10 week Silkscreen and Printmaking Workshop and I’m very excited about it! I’ve done linocut printing before but have always wanted to learn how to screen print and make other kinds of prints. I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons in terms of the crafts I am able in and I can’t wait to finally add printmaker to that list!

Number 2 –

This is the most exciting new challenge for me by far. I’M STARTING UP A KNITTING GROUP!!! Yes, a real-life knitting group where actual people (I hope) meet up for a couple of hours a month to chat, knit and generally have a good time. It’s called The Last Wednesday Knitting Group because, surprise surprise, it’s held on the last Wednesday of every month! Hehe. The first one is 31st March, just over a week away. If live in the London (UK) area and are interested in coming along, here are the details:

When: 31st March 2010, from 6pm-8:30pm
Where: The Travel Bookshop, 13-15 Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill, London, W11 2EE
Nearest Tube: Notting Hill Gate//Ladbroke Grove (about a 5-10 minute walk from each)
Nearest Bus: 5245223770228 (go here to see where the buses stop)

There is no need to bring anything apart from your wool and knitting/crochet/etc…we will be able to teach the basic stitches to learners and refreshments will be available. As this is the launch night, it will be quite informal and we can discuss any requests and questions new members have about how the group will run, special events, etc…

My boyfriend is currently designing the poster for the knitting group and as soon as it’s finished I’ll be posting it here!! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jaqueline(at)craftyfoxes(dot)co(dot)uk or leave a comment on the blog. And if anyone has any really good tips to help me run this baby smoothly, they will be very much appreciated!!

I have a few more exciting things in the wings however I’m going to save those for another post  – one of them will be a new feature soon so I don’t want to ruin the surprise just yet! Right time for me to go to bed. I’m up early tomorrow (yes, up early on a Sunday) so I need some beauty sleeps! Haha.
