Making Wonderland…

18 Jul

When Quadrille Publishing offered their Twitter followers a chance to procure a review copy of a soon-to-be-released craft book “Everything Alice”, I, being the crafty fox that I am, jumped at the chance and before you could shout “Off with their heads!” had my very own copy ready to be thoroughly leafed through and drooled over.

As far as ideas go, stylist and illustrator, Hannah Read-Baldrey, and art-director and designer, Christine Leech, hit on the perfect idea – a craft and recipe book based around Alice in Wonderland. This book could very easily have been a god-send when I was at university due to the amount of Alice in Wondlerand themed parties I was invited to! Saying that, I’m quite sure there will be many more Alice themed parties to come in my life, knowing my friends!

In terms of the projects inside the book, I’m not kidding when I said the book would be drooled over (okay, maybe not literally but you know what I mean.) Every single craft project Christine and Hannah have come up with is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Never before have I wanted to make everything in a craft book! From easy things you can do with small children, like the dress-up dolls, to more complicated projects like the Everything Alice puppet theatre below (which I would say is just as perfect for a fun adult evening party in the summer as it is a children’s birthday party), there really is something for everyone to make and enjoy making!

In my humble opinion, you should definitely invest in this book. My sister has already told me she wants this book (I did lend it to her and got it back, thankfully) and I might just surprise her with a copy at some point but shhhhhh, don’t tell her I said so! Hehe. I’m sad I didn’t get to go to the launch party a couple of weeks ago but will definitely be creating my own Wonderland soon…any excuse for a party, huh?

Be sure to look back here on Friday, I have a super special giveaway that I’m sure you won’t want to miss out on!

If I was to…

14 May

…own any pair of shoes, it would be these lovelies from Swedish Hasbeens

…to go out dancing, I’d want to have this red vintage purse from Bucket Tree in my clutches

…buy an heirloom, it would be this gold and black diamond fox neckalce from Rust

…have a child, he or she would wear this awesome cardigan from Antik Batik

…get married, I would wear one of these dresses from Saja

…own my first house, it would look like this one

…and would have this on the wall

…and would put this on my kitchen table

…and would have this over my knees as I sat watching DVDs or listening to vinyl records

Now that Christmas has gone, your home may be feeling a bit bare! (Small confession to make here, I put up 2 bits of tinselly stuff that I haven’t taken down yet). But there is always New Years!

Another Design*Sponge DIY! If you’re not drinking this New Year’s Eve, keep your French Press coffee hot with this lovely cozy you can make yourself!

And make sure you keep your tootsies warm in the winter evening’s with this lovely Mary-Jane slipper DIY from Good Knits.

So whether you go out or stay in this New Year’s make sure you have a safe and fun time! I’ll be spending it in with my sister watching Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, DVDs and most likely a few Poirot’s and Miss Marple’s! Time for me to start writing out my goals for 2011 before it gets here!

Merry Christmas!

23 Dec

Christmas Deer 2.
As most bloggers are doing right now, I’m signing off for a few days or so to spend some quality time with my family and loved ones. Plans changed at the last minute this year so this Christmas is a London Christmas and I’m looking forward to spending it at my home.

Be safe on your travels if you’re going home and enjoy yourself once you’re there! I hope you get everything you could wish for and more. And thank you for reading my blog this year. It means so much to know that people might take something away from here that inspires them or helps them in one way or another.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

All of these photos are from my iPhone and have been edited using Instagram. The best way to explain it is that it’s like Twitter and Flickr mixed together without the spam and with cool editing features integrated into it. I love it and can’t stop using it! My favourite app so far!

I’m busy knitting Christmas presents at the moment hence why I haven’t posted since the beginning of the month but hopefully after Christmas I’ll have lots to blog about and we can resume the blogging year once again! I hope you’re all well and having a happy holiday season!

This Christmas…

4 Dec

…I will have mixed emotions
…I will spend time with my family
…I will hand make all my Christmas gifts and expect nothing (okay, maybe a present or two, hehe)

…I will be thankful for those I’ve got in my life and the good things, although few and far between, that have happened to me this year
…I will enjoy stuffing my face with chocolate and clementines and turkey and roast potatoes
…I will drink as many Toffeenut Lattes as is humanly possible before they stop selling them at Starbucks

…I will shamelessly sing Mariah Carey Christmas songs at the top of my lungs
…I will also croon along with Frank, Dean, Nat and Bing
…I will watch ‘Meet Me at St Louis’ and ‘Elf’ repeatedly
…I will drink mulled wine with friends

…I will knit fair isle
Scandinavian Knit Jumper (Primark)
…I will be happy

What will you be doing this Christmas?

Crafty Foxes Christmas Wants

29 Nov

If you are a follower of my Twitter, you will see that I’ve been updating periodically with a number of Christmas Wants. Some of these are personal choices that I would love for myself, others are amazing things I’ve come across and think would make perfect gifts. I have tried to categorise each time I post but sometimes I post whatever I find at the time!

I’ve decided to post them on here as many places will have shipping deadlines and if you fancy any of these as gifts you’ll need to get them soon! I’m posting from most recent tweets as well, hence the backward running order!

Christmas Want 12: Channel your inner Classic Hollywood starlet in this beautiful capelet. Feathers are officially in. http://etsy.me/e1umEP

Christmas Want 11: A @giantdwarf Starlette Crown is the perfect way to accessorise this holiday season! http://etsy.me/ftwCCd

Christmas Want 10: Power women + fashion accessories = Cleo Ferin’s creations. I’m particularly fond of Calamity Jane…http://bit.ly/eUELUB

Christmas Want 9: For the little ones…something from Little Sapling Toys. Gorgeous wood toys and teething rings!http://etsy.me/hhwQKs

Christmas Want 8: This amazing metal antler hook from Formed&Found on @poppytalk ‘s handmade gift list! Perfect!http://bit.ly/evfT2o

Christmas Want 7: @skunkboy ‘s ridiculously cute owl ornament! This is a personal want, for sure! http://etsy.me/hw5Dxs (These have now sold out but there a few other very cute bits and pieces in the shop)

Christmas Want 6: Who doesn’t want a bow tie from @hidinginhere‘s Forage collection?! They are perfect in every way – http://forage.bigcartel.com/

Christmas Want 5: The perfect vintage knitting accessory. Keep those paws off your project in a vintage yarn holder!http://etsy.me/fZGpBv

Christmas Want 4: Always wanted a beard but not the hassle of growing one? Problem solved! http://etsy.me/fy9ovC

Christmas Want 3: Cupcake Kitten Hat Knitting Pattern by tinyowlknits (I’m knitting the deer hat pattern now!)http://etsy.me/af42sj (I actually bought this and am looking forward to knitting it up after Christmas – I’ve requested the wool as one of my gifties!)

Christmas Want 2: Original Silhouette Antlers ink drawing by @CharmaineOlivia http://etsy.me/9QzZmj

Christmas Want 1: Color Wheel Necklace from @yellowowlwkshop http://yellowowlworkshop.com/pendants.html

Now some of these gifts definitely blow the budget, others are very reasonably priced. The one thing you will recognise about all of these though is that they are all HANDMADE! Each and every item is supporting an artist, crafter or otherwise and I think that at Christmas time this is important. And when you give something like one of these gifts to your loved one/s they will know that you took the time and effort to find something special!

I can’t believe that it’s almost December (1 day away!!). This year has flown by sooooooo quickly and I can’t quite believe the year that I’ve had. Ups and downs, and I’m slightly glad it’s coming to an end. Although there are plenty of things that went well this year it’s possibly been the worst year of my life so far…but that’s for another post!!!

To end on a high, I’ll be posting a little more regularly again soon. I’m busy trying to make all my Christmas gifts but my fingers need a break from sewing, knitting and other crafty escapades and the computer has become that! Hehe. Until then….

I’m a little obsessive…

22 Nov

Purely in a good way though! Not a scary, stalkerish, freaky kind of way (although that may depend on you, my readers, opinion of what equals scary obsessive). Haha.

No, my obsessiveness comes into form when I start new projects or collections. Past obsessions include Dunny vinyl figures (check out KidRobot if you don’t know what these are), Fafi (an awesome French lady graffiti artist who I still love obsessively), tapestry (this one was quite a few years ago when I was a wee lassie), and embroidery (I think I kept Jenny Hart in business for a few months! Haha). That’s only naming a few of them.

Currently, my obsessive personality has turned to hat knitting. If you follow me on Twitter or follow The Last Wednesday Knitting Club on Facebook, you will have seen my current project progress on this hat…

I knit the hat up in 3 days (a total of 3/4 hours in total). I’m just waiting for the right sized DPNs to arrive from my lovely mum for the ears and antlers!

Well, the lovely Stephanie of tinyowlknits has other hat patterns. And I’ve fallen in love with them. Like seriously.

Cupcake Kitten Hat – umm, so how cute is this hat!? I want to make both versions of it. And knit more as gifts for my friends and family.

Orchids and Fairylights Hat – just so whimsical and pretty!

These are my favourite hats. There are another couple, but these have stolen my knitting heart big time! There are quite a few other patterns on her Ravelry profile and Etsy shop too, with the bottom two images showing my current favourites…

Fawn-cho (Poncho with a Fawn on the front, hehe) – le sigh-

Meow Mitts -le sigh again-

As I said, the patterns for all of these lovely, lovely garments can be found online in Stephanie’s Etsy shop – Tiny Owl’s Magic Attic or on her Ravelry profile – tinyowlknits.
My obsession has also turned to the patterns Stephanie creates as well. But I could be obsessed with worse things, don’t you agree? Hehe. Let me know what you get obsessive over! Not the scary obsessive, just the nice, cool obsessive stuff! Haha.

Happy Weekend!

31 Oct

I hope you’ve all had a safe and fun Halloween weekend! I went to a circus themed party last night with some friends and dressed up as a Dia de Los Muertos tattooed lady. You can’t see my tattoos in this picture but I drew some designs on a pair of nude tights – Sailor Jerry anchors, cherries, stars, hearts, etc… and wore them on my arms. I also had my REAL tattoo on my back on display. It was a very easy costume and I’m glad I trained as a makeup artist as it made doing my face really easy and I didn’t have to buy anything to do it with! I love my kit!

(Apologies for the crummy iPhone picture, I’ll post better ones soon!)

Other things I’ve been up to include dinner with friends and family and knitting like a crazy lady! I’m halfway through my first pair of fingerless mittens knitted in the round (meaning I’ve finished one! Haha). I’m so glad I’ve mastered knitting on DPNs, or double pointed needles for those not of the knitting community, and don’t know why it took me so long to give it a go! It’s so easy once you start doing it!

I’ve got a couple of other projects on the go too, including a few hats for people, a snood for a friend and this baby for me…

CUTEST HAT EVER!!! And I’m making sure I get it finished before Christmas because I want to wear this baby on Christmas Day! It’s available on Ravelry here (you need an account to see it but they are free and give you access to a huge number of projects both free and paid for – this one was $5.50). I always get really inspired to knit when the weather starts getting colder and now that I’ve learnt new skills I’m really excited to start more and more new projects and finally use up my wool stash!

I hope your weekend has been filled with not so many tricks and lots of treats! Will be back sometime this week with another blog post about something or other!
