And the winner is…..(drumroll)

8 Aug

………………….

NUMBER 3!  Giselle! Woo hoo! And this was Giselle’s outfit…..

Giselle says:

I can’t decide which one outfit I’d wear the gingham bow tie with… it’s a toss up between:
• with an oversize shirt, pencil skirt and ankle cowboy boots for work (kind of look like a 50s waitress)
• adding a bit of colour to my brown ’70s shirt-dress with equestrian motifs printed all over it

Failing that, I’d probably wear it in my hair with whatever happens to be clean and near the front of the wardrobe most days!

Well done and congratulations! If you can email me your full name and address to jaqueline(@)craftyfoxes.co.uk, I will send that onto Shauna and Stephen and your new bow tie will wing it’s way to you as soon as possible!

Sorry it’s taken me a week longer to announce it. There have been a couple of things going on that unfortunately got in the way of any blogging but it’s service as usual again!

Be back soon!

Happy Number 1 Forage Bow Ties!!!!

22 Jul

A year ago today something special was created. Shauna and Stephen of Something’s Hiding In Here launched an awesome little pop-up shop at The Curiosity Shoppe in San Francisco selling handmade bow ties from vintage fabrics.

One year on and they’ve had 7 collections of  FORAGE bow ties (with number 8 out in August), all of which have sold out or are currently very close to selling out. And more recently, Shauna and Stephen created their first collection of sumptuous Ladies Bow Ties which I coveted and then finally got my hands on. I chose the KATRINA Multi Colour Gingham and every time I’ve worn it have received nothing but love for it…..and impressed gasps when they realise I’ve tied it myself and it’s NOT a clip-on! 🙂

(Me in my KATRINA bow tie, looking particularly badass! Haha, but it seriously is my new favourite accesory and I wore it out to dinner with a friend/potential date this week…fingers crossed it has magic dating powers!)
Now here comes the really exciting part…as part of the celebrations for FORAGE’s First Birthday, I’m giving away one of the sold out Ladies Bow Ties! The JENNA Pink Gingham bow tie, pictured at the very top of this post, is one of my favourites and one of you, my lucky readers, has the chance to win win win! And this is the LAST ONE! After this is sent to you, there are no more JENNA bow ties left to buy anywhere.

All you have to do to win is leave a comment in the comments section on here with your name and email and the outfit you would wear your new bow tie with. My favourite new outfit with my bow tie is a black shirt and black skirt/skinny black trousers so the bow tie really pops! This giveaway will be open until end of day 29th July and the winner will be chosen at random just after midnight. Good luck!

And to Shauna and Stephen and FORAGE Bow Ties,

Summertime is Busytime

2 Jul

As I haven’t posted properly in a while I thought I’d fill you in on a few things that are happening or have happened in my life recently.

The BUST Summer Craftacular is just over a week away on Saturday, July 10th and I’ve been prepping for that – both as a volunteer and a mini-seller. I’ve set up our official Twitter account (find us @CraftacularUK) which I think you should follow regardless of where you live in the world! We’re doing regular vendor features in the run up to the day itself and you might be find someone amazing!! All the vendors are great though and I think you should buy things from all of them! Full list of vendors can be found here. I can’t wait to see all the goodies that the vendors will be selling. So much fun!!

I also recently won a giveaway over at dear plastic – the lovely Yumi and Taka were celebrating No Plastic Day on 8th June and had a giveaway of some lovely goodies that fit in with the ethos of not using plastic, recycling and generally caring for our planet. The goodies included…

(Washi tape, o-check recycled notebook, ‘The Weather Makers’ by Tim Flannery – a pre-loved copy of course!!)

(This amazing original texta drawing by Yumi and Taka – for those who aren’t from Australia, a texta is a felt tip pen)

(This amazing customised eco-bag made from 100% Australian hemp/cotton. Keeping production local is such an important part of fighting the rate at which climate change is currently affecting the planet! It’s also available to buy in the dear plastic shop!!)

(Front and back covers of Yumi’s zine, which can also be bought from the dear plastic shop – it’s amazing and lovely!)

Yumi also has her first solo exhibition coming up in Paddington, Sydney (yes, as in Australia). I’m bummed I don’t live in Australia any longer so I’ll unfortunately be missing out on this but if you live in or near the area there is a link to the gallery on the Dear Plastic blog!!

And to fill you in on my life right now…..The last few weeks for me have been completely and utterly MENTAL! The first 5 months of this year were pretty uneventful bar the occasional birthday and interesting but sparse event. June, however, was crazy busy and the first 2 weeks of July aren’t looking much different! My first wholesale order is in the works (I’ll post more about this after I’ve finished it), I’m volunteering for the BUST Summer Craftacular London again, I’ve had a few job interviews in a very short space of time, I have a private view and exhibition of some of my work from the screenprinting course I enrolled on 10 weeks ago (private view is the same day as my boyfriend’s though and I have to go to his first), I’m planning the Autumn/Winter collections and new items for Crafty Foxes……..the list just goes on and on and on right now!

But I’m not complaining (too much anyway, haha). I tend to thrive when I’m working to a tight deadline – most of my best essays were written 1-2 days before they were due in! I can’t afford to leave it THAT late for the things I’m doing at the moment but the deadlines are looming and I’m finding myself more and more driven to work and get them done as soon as I possibly can.

Just one more quick thing, I’d like to say thank you if you’re reading this and you are a member of The Last Wednesday Knitting Club! I really appreciate people’s enthusiasm for it and all the people I have met so far are awesome! I’m hoping to make it better and better and take it to a new level over the next few months and new members are definitely helping give me the boost and push towards that. So thanks ladies!! (Yes, it has been only ladies so far apart from when my dad came along (he didn’t knit though)…..c’mon guys, you’re welcome too!!)

That’s me for now. I’m sure you’re sick of reading right now!! Here’s to a great weekend for everyone!!

Pretty Things Thursday

14 Jan

Well, it’s getting late over here and I’m only just getting my Pretty Things Thursday post up. I’ve had a bit of a busy day in terms of being out for a couple of hours and filling out more application forms than I can shake a stick at! First things first though. If you haven’t read my blog post below please go to Janel’s blog, Run With Scissors – I’m one of her featured guest bloggers and have a little giveaway. All you have to do is leave a comment on the post and you’ll be entered! Simples!! Oh, and welcome to all the new readers that have come from her blog!!! I hope you like what you’ve seen!

I will admit I’ve been lagging behind a little bit in finding pretty things. I’ve been busy with my job applications so have been severely limiting my ‘looking at pretty things’ time and using it as a reward for when I get something important done! But I have found a few things that I can share with you today so fear not!!

Cute little squirelly brooches (my woodland animals obsession hasn’t shown any signs of letting up yet!!)

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge Blythe fan but Katie (of Skunkboy Creatures) did a customisation of this one and I love it! Is it strange to want to look like her? Hehe.

Katie also posted this picture on her blog today. It’s one of the cutest pictures I’ve seen in such a long time!! I just want to give the little Scout a hug! He’s such a little dude!! Love it!!

I love the simplicity of the photos Tif takes over at Dottie Angel. And I’m a sucker for the colours she uses and puts together in her crochet and portraits. I’m thinking of making a few garlands myself this year to try and add a bit of simple decoration to my flat.

I am going to make this blog post a short one today as I need to have an early night and be bright and sparky for tomorrow and whatever it brings me (probably more application forms, haha). I’m going to end my evening watching some trashy films (i.e. bad action films not rude ones!!) and carrying on knitting a scarf for my lovely boyfriend. He likes it so far and it should be finished by next week sometime…I’m giving myself a little while longer than most would as I’m still not as quick as seasoned knitters such as my mum and Vivianna!!

Have a great weekend people and I’ll be back on Sunday for the weekly round-up!! And leave some comment love too, I love hearing from my readers!!

I’ve done it!!

9 Nov

So, I blogged in the Sunday Round Up yesterday about granny stars that I’d seen over at Sarah London’s blog. And today I finally made one!!!

Granny Star!!!

As there was no pattern, I wrote one out myself and it worked!! It’s given me so much confidence in my crocheting abilities to know that I can now write a pattern and it makes what I want it to. One thing I may do is add an extra chain in the very last round so the corners are a little more pointy.

I’ve also done a bit of journalling today and have decided to share a couple of pages. This is a big thing for me as I usually don’t share anything I’ve written in a journal but you all seem like nice enough people to do so with!

Journal

This is the front cover. The picture on the front is one that I took of some tapestry yarn I had lying about.

Journal

This is the page I did for Autumn. It’s been a relatively good Autumn for me with lots of new experiences. Things only got a little bad towards the end of it. Definitly a memorable Autumn for me anyway! The photo of the tree is also one that I took.

Journal

This is my 2010 page. The photo is again by me of the planner I made from the RVA 2010 Planner Kit. I’ve still got so many more things to add to this page but it’s filled with things that I’m looking forward to and would like to do next year.

The last couple of pictures are of some bags I recently made for the winners of my giveaway, Janel and Astrid. I had a lot of fun making these and will definitely be making more of them to put in my shop when it’s finally up and running (yes, I made the bag as well as adding the decoration/customisation.)

2 Handmade Bags
Pompom bouquet

This is a close up of the pompom bouquet I did on the bag for Janel. I’ve had a recent obsession with pompoms after reading Miss James’ post on the Bleubird Vintage blog about the pompom wreath. This is one of my favourite creations for a while – something about it being so simple and colourful.

On another note, I’ve decided to also postpone the opening of my Etsy shop for a little bit longer. It was meant to be up and running by 1st December but with everything that happened over the past 2 weeks I just need to get my headspace running normally again. Crafting and journalling has definitely helped me but I need as little stress in my life at the moment and opening a store, either online or in real-life is stressful and I don’t want to take that on board until I feel ready. Sorry if you were looking forward to it, but if you do want something custom made I am more than happy to enter into conversation about costs, etc., as I do have a Paypal account open for selling of goods.

So that’s a few things I had to share today! I hope everyone has had a happy Monday and has a great Tuesday.

And the winners are…

11 Oct

So as promised, the winners of my giveaway were drawn yesterday by my lovely mum and the two lucky winners were…

Astrid

and Janel!!

(click on the photos to see their wonderful blogs)

Congratulations lovelies!! Some goodies will be winging their way to you soon – I have to finish the bags first and pick your individual surprise gifts that will be included in your package!

So a success for the first Crafty Foxes giveaway! I can feel more coming on in the future…it was such fun doing this one!

I’ll be back a little later on for my Sunday Round Up but until then have a nice, relaxing Sunday!

The Sunday Round Up

27 Sep

This week has been a busy one but I’ve somehow managed to get a few things done. My main goal for this weekend was to finish my RVA 2010 Planner, and guess what, I did!

My new crafty 2010 planner!

This is my October calendar. See in the corner? Hehe.

This is my October calendar. See in the corner? Hehe.

All together this took me 2 weeks to complete. I’ve been slacking a bit on personal projects but have been back to work and trying to fit in craft class projects too! I’m happy with how it turned out and so glad that it’s done now!!

I also did some spray paint stencilling at my sister and brother-in-law’s house on Saturday. I managed to fit in part of one of my craft classes and used a stencil/embroidery pattern to create a cool design for a cream pashmina (it cost £1.99).

The finished product!

My brother-in-law also did this t-shirt for me with stencils from Ed Roth’s “Stencil 101” book. He has an amazing eye for colours that go together and I’m glad he did this otherwise I would have messed it up!

I also did a couple of test pieces with the skeleton stencils I made from the pattern and plan on using those to maybe make a couple of cushions. We’ll see though when I finally get round to doing it!

So thanks to people who have entered my giveaway so far. If you want to enter you still have just under 2 weeks to do so. Just leave a comment on any post about your favourite autumn accessory and you’ll be entered! I hope everyone has a great week ahead!

Exciting times!

25 Sep
This crafty fox has some Crafty Foxes news!

This crafty fox has some Crafty Foxes news!

Yes.

It’s true.

There are exciting times ahead. Why, I hear you ask?? Exciting time number one is that after months of deliberating, I’ve finally decided to open my own Etsy shop – Crafty Foxes. I will be selling my handmade wares in the big wide handmade world. The official open date is December 1st (a little while away I know), with the reason being that I work full time and need to stagger the making so I’m not bogged down right at the end and panicking I have nothing to sell. I just hope I have a least one person that likes my stuff enough to buy it but my friends and family like the things I give them as presents, so fingers crossed! The image above is my makeshift logo for now (I sketched it at work today).

On to exciting time number two.

To celebrate my little announcement I’ve decided to have myself a little GIVEAWAY!! Yes, you heard right! I’ve taken the plunge and got myself organised enough to do a giveaway. It’s my first and I’m a little nervous about it but I’m really excited to be doing it. And to top it all off, there will be 2 winners!!

Some of these lovely things could be yours!

Some of these lovely things could be yours!

Each winner will receive a package containing one of my felt heart brooches (they’re stuffed with polyfil and are nice and squidgy in a good way!!), one of my crocheted headbands (it will be embellished with buttons from my button stash), one of the above postcards (either a knitting rabbit or cool little owl), and a surprise gift – this will be chosen once the winners are announced as I want it to be personalized for the person, although it won’t necessarily be handmade. AND it will all be inside a handmade tote bag!

So I guess you want to know how to enter the First Ever Crafty Foxes Autumn Giveaway, huh? It’s simple. Just leave me a comment about your favourite Autumn accessory and why you love it so much. It could be a hat, a scarf, a pair of gloves or mittens…it could even be a decoration you put out each year around this time! Mine is a soft pink knitted hat (that currently needs a wash so won’t be pictured yet) that gets put on my head around this time of year and then doesn’t come off until the weather gets a whole lot warmer.

Toasty warm!

Toasty warm!

These fingerless gloves (there is another one but I haven’t mastered the art of no hand photo taking, hehe) are also a favourite too. My mum knitted them for me a couple of years ago and they’re chunky and warm and soft in just the right amounts.

The closing date for this giveaway is the 9th October. That’s 2 weeks to get your entries in. The winners will be chosen at random by my mum on the 10th (it’s going to be names in a woolly hat) – she’s coming down and we’re going to the Knitting and Stitching Show in London. I’m so excited!! You can enter as many times as you want but be aware you can’t win both prizes – there will be two winners and who wants two lots of the same things?

So good luck to all you lovely readers and sorry for the long blog if you’ve reached this part. You are all amazing and I wish you all the best of luck and look forward to reading all your comments!!
