Birthday Wishlist: Part Deux

17 Feb

With only two weeks to go, these are a few of the more pricey gifties I would L-O-V-E to receive and would be eternally grateful for…

A subscription to Frankie Magazine too keep me in the loop with the Australian crafty and fashion scenes…

Issue 8 of Uppercase Magazine and a subscription if it could be arranged…

This gorgeous print from Pretty Little Thieves…. (Side Note: If anyone can find headphones like the ones she’s wearing, I will love you forever!!)

Any of these gorgeous one of a kind headbands from Ban.Do’s Black Label – I think all of these ones have sold which is a shame but hopefully next time!

I can’t believe that in just over 2 weeks I’ll be 25. I know it’s not a big age, like 30, 40, 50 or 60 but it’s one of those birthday’s that you want to remember as you’ve finally got to the finish line of that first quarter of your life (if you live to 100 that is!!)

There are a few exciting things going on around here and on the Wednesday Knit blog soon, so keep your eyes peeled over the coming days for a few announcements and a return to your regular blogging schedule!!

The First Quarter Century

30 Jan

In just over a month I will be able to tick a new box whenever I have to fill out a survey. Yep, 25 is almost here! It’s quite a big birthday and I’m looking forward to it – I’m having a fancy dress party that I’ll elaborate on soon!

As we all do with our birthday’s and Chistmas’s, I’m creating a birthday wishlist of a few items I’ve seen around the blogosphere.

This lovely Recycled Canvas Tote Bag from ForestBound is definitely one of my top items. I’ve been after a new handbag for a long, long time and I’ve fallen in LOVE with this one.

I’ve also fallen in love with Trixie Delicious’s amazing “vandalized vintage”. This plate is one of my favourites but the Crack House Plate and Hussy/Floozy Teacups are also high up on my list of wants!

This Ashley G print, entitled ‘Knitty, Knitty’ is one that I really want to hang up on my wall. By now, you will know of my knitting obsession and my 2 knitting groups so this is an entirely appropriate birthday want! Hehe.

I’m a long-term fan of Spinthread’s creations and this lovely hand-embroidered geometric triangle necklace is longing to be worn around my neck!

So those are a few of my wishlist choices. I thought it might be good to split this into 2 posts (makes it sound like I have LOADS of wishlist items when I only have about 8-10!)

I hope you are all well and enjoying this year so far. Can’t believe that it’s the end of January already! Enjoy this week! I’ll be knitting!

Business as Usual

28 Dec

I can’t believe Christmas is over for yet another year! I hope everyone had a restful and lovely Christmas. Mine was anything but. If you follow me on Twitter you will know that my Christmas plans were cancelled last minute due to my brother-in-law being in hospital and subsequently needing an emergency operation on Christmas Eve night/Christmas Day morning for something that could have been potentially life threatening. All the positive vibes, prayers and thoughts people sent must have worked somehow as when they went in to operate the problem wasn’t as severe as they thought it would be and they didn’t have to do as much invasive surgery. It made for a very different Christmas to say the least! I think between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day my family and I got about 10 hours sleep collectively. His progress now is stable and he’s recovering well. Touch wood it continues without the bumps his past surgery recoveries have had. Positive vibes and prayers would be very much appreciated still as he’s not out of hospital or the woods yet and my family and I remain grateful for everyone’s kind words.

Onto Christmas Day itself though. Apart from having little to no sleep whatsoever, as soon as we knew my brother-in-law was out of surgery and in recovery the day went a lot smoother. Present opening started with Santa Sacks and as soon as everyone was awake the tree presents got opened. A tradition in my family (that has been going on for as long as anyone can remember) is that we can open Santa Sacks before anyone else wakes up but tree presents have to be opened with everyone in the family there. These were a few of my gifts.

Santa bought me these!!! I wonder what the other part may be....YAY 1

Hunter Wellies!!!! Yay!!

YAY 2Smelling Sweet.

YAY 4First Attempt at Fair Isle Knitting!

YAY 5

All in all a pretty good haul and I can’t wait to use my Holga! So excited about that! This Christmas made me realise more than ever how important family and loved ones are and I’m just glad to have mine around! Next stop for me is 2011. This year of 2010 has been the worst year on record for me and I can’t wait to see the back of it. But that is for another blog post before the New Year where I will be rounding up my year and my hopes for next year.

So I hope you all have some great new toys to be playing with, assembling and/or wearing after Christmas and will be back before the week (AND YEAR!!) is out.

PS. You may notice I’m changing the look of the blog. It’s part of my “out with the old, in with the new” kick I’m having right now. New things are great!

Crafty Foxes Christmas Wants

29 Nov

If you are a follower of my Twitter, you will see that I’ve been updating periodically with a number of Christmas Wants. Some of these are personal choices that I would love for myself, others are amazing things I’ve come across and think would make perfect gifts. I have tried to categorise each time I post but sometimes I post whatever I find at the time!

I’ve decided to post them on here as many places will have shipping deadlines and if you fancy any of these as gifts you’ll need to get them soon! I’m posting from most recent tweets as well, hence the backward running order!

Christmas Want 12: Channel your inner Classic Hollywood starlet in this beautiful capelet. Feathers are officially in. http://etsy.me/e1umEP

Christmas Want 11: A @giantdwarf Starlette Crown is the perfect way to accessorise this holiday season! http://etsy.me/ftwCCd

Christmas Want 10: Power women + fashion accessories = Cleo Ferin’s creations. I’m particularly fond of Calamity Jane…http://bit.ly/eUELUB

Christmas Want 9: For the little ones…something from Little Sapling Toys. Gorgeous wood toys and teething rings!http://etsy.me/hhwQKs

Christmas Want 8: This amazing metal antler hook from Formed&Found on @poppytalk ‘s handmade gift list! Perfect!http://bit.ly/evfT2o

Christmas Want 7: @skunkboy ‘s ridiculously cute owl ornament! This is a personal want, for sure! http://etsy.me/hw5Dxs (These have now sold out but there a few other very cute bits and pieces in the shop)

Christmas Want 6: Who doesn’t want a bow tie from @hidinginhere‘s Forage collection?! They are perfect in every way – http://forage.bigcartel.com/

Christmas Want 5: The perfect vintage knitting accessory. Keep those paws off your project in a vintage yarn holder!http://etsy.me/fZGpBv

Christmas Want 4: Always wanted a beard but not the hassle of growing one? Problem solved! http://etsy.me/fy9ovC

Christmas Want 3: Cupcake Kitten Hat Knitting Pattern by tinyowlknits (I’m knitting the deer hat pattern now!)http://etsy.me/af42sj (I actually bought this and am looking forward to knitting it up after Christmas – I’ve requested the wool as one of my gifties!)

Christmas Want 2: Original Silhouette Antlers ink drawing by @CharmaineOlivia http://etsy.me/9QzZmj

Christmas Want 1: Color Wheel Necklace from @yellowowlwkshop http://yellowowlworkshop.com/pendants.html

Now some of these gifts definitely blow the budget, others are very reasonably priced. The one thing you will recognise about all of these though is that they are all HANDMADE! Each and every item is supporting an artist, crafter or otherwise and I think that at Christmas time this is important. And when you give something like one of these gifts to your loved one/s they will know that you took the time and effort to find something special!

I can’t believe that it’s almost December (1 day away!!). This year has flown by sooooooo quickly and I can’t quite believe the year that I’ve had. Ups and downs, and I’m slightly glad it’s coming to an end. Although there are plenty of things that went well this year it’s possibly been the worst year of my life so far…but that’s for another post!!!

To end on a high, I’ll be posting a little more regularly again soon. I’m busy trying to make all my Christmas gifts but my fingers need a break from sewing, knitting and other crafty escapades and the computer has become that! Hehe. Until then….

Or, I could just be taken wool shopping at Loop, John Lewis and/or Prick Your Finger!! There’s something I love in each of them!

There are a few other things on my list like vintage buttons and lace doilies and vintage letterpress letters spelling out ‘Crafty Foxes’. I do get a little excited by my birthday and I’m looking forward to it this year. It’ll give me a chance to see friends from around London again who I miss terribly but don’t have enough cash to go visit!

Katja also put a birthday gift list up on her blog (our birthdays are a day apart) so if you’re feeling super generous and want to buy us gifts go check it out! Not that we expect anyone to! It’s more just a huge hint drop to our families, friends and loves! Hehe.

Christmas 2009 – Coming Soon!

16 Nov

Now, I realise that for any American readers out there you still have Thanksgiving to go before Christmas really gets into full swing but here in the UK there are no other significant celebrated holidays between Easter and Christmas (I know Halloween falls between them but it’s not yet as big as it is in the US yet).

Christmas for me started about 3 weeks ago when everything started changing at work to become more holiday and gift themed. When you work in retail you soon find out when the seasonal holidays really start and it’s generally about 2-3 months before they actually happen. I decided a while ago that this year was going to be a handmade holiday year and so the first thing I had to do was write a list of all the people I have to make presents for and what I wanted to make for them.

Now you may be thinking that I’m just making presents for people like my immediate family (mum, dad, siblings, partner) and maybe a couple of friends. But no. My family goes up to Scotland each year to spend Christmas on my auntie and uncle’s farm. In total, there will be 11 of us up there (including myself and as far as I’m aware…people always end up being added on, haha). I also have to make another 2 presents for my Meme (grandmother) and brother who live in Australia. And I will most likely give a couple of presents to friends who have been really helpful to me this year. So that takes the number of presents I have to make up to 14 but you have to double and add a couple more to that as people will be getting more than one handmade item, which therefore takes the total number of presents to near 30!!

So my list was written during my two weeks off, but I haven’t started actually making presents until this week. The first ones I want to get done are the ones that have to go to Australia – posting for Christmas is recommended by early December, LATEST! I’ve started on part of Meme’s present…

Grannies for granny

…and I thought it was particularly funny that I was crocheting granny squares for my granny, hehe! If you took part in Elsie and Rachel’s RVA Autumn Craft Class, you know what I’ll be making with these. I love the colours of the wool I’ve chosen and am so happy they go really well together. My mum did help me out a bit with colour choice as she know’s what her mum likes more than I do (even though I’m pretty close to her). Other members of my family will also be getting gifts inspired by the RVA Autumn Craft Class, but obviously I can’t post the completed items here as I know some of them read it. So snippets it’ll be!

One thing I do wish I’d purchased or thought of before I started all of this, is a holiday planner. Rachel over at Smile and Wave posted a tutorial (available to purchase on etsy) for a particularly cute one.

Holiday Planner

Holiday Planner

I haven’t yet bought it but I wouldn’t mind getting the tutorial when payday comes as even though it might be a little late for my holiday planning it can be transformed into a planner for something else or into a journal (or it can be used to make a present for someone). (If anyone would like to get it for me that would be muchos appreciated too, hehe).

I realise that this post has been quite text heavy but I plan on posting more pictures of my run up to Christmas in the coming weeks. It’s fun seeing how everybody prepares for this yearly holiday and inspiring to see what ideas people come up with for handmade gifts. I hope you’ve enjoyed this first installment and I’ll be back next week with more about how I decorate and how my list of presents is coming along! What are you all doing for Christmas this year? Leave me some comment love below.

If you’re blogging your way to Christmas too, leave me a comment and I’ll come and check out your blog and leave you some comment love.
