I’m Not Myself Right Now

30 Apr

I’m having a hard time blogging lately. I just don’t find myself very inspired to do so. I know a few other bloggers have felt this way recently so it’s not something that bothers me too much but I just thought you, my readers should get a reason to why I’m not posting here.

It’s funny though. Mentally I feel better than I have done in a very long time. I’ve been going to the gym regularly and eating better, and found that it’s really helped! However my health itself is annoying me right now – my liver has decided to play up for some reason so I’m having to go for yet another blood test (this will be my third) and an ultrasound. To be honest, I’m a bit scared. Not only about the blood test, due to my MASSIVE medical needle phobia but about my health. This is the first time I’ve had any tests like this done. I’ve had a few teary moments about it and have thought of all the things it could possibly be or not be (and googled them, haha. Why do we do it?). Hopefully the tests come back conclusively with something this time round and I can move on with a treatment, etc…to fix the problem. I guess it’s the worrying that’s affecting my motivation and taking my mind off doing things here.

I do also have another reason why I’ve been absent. I have been asked to come up with product samples for a small shop – all original and exclusive Crafty Foxes designs to fit with the themes of the shop itself. I have just under two weeks to get them ready and will posts sneak peaks here as soon as I can and will announce the store once they’ve decided on the products to stock. It’s very exciting as I only set up my online shop recently and hopefully this will lead onto bigger and better things!

Sorry this isn’t such a picture heavy post but if I manage to get a good amount of samples made over the next two weeks then I will post more here. Hopefully my product research will help with that! I hope you are all well and enjoying yourselves right now.

Keeping Busy with Memory Lane

26 Mar

Hello my faithful blog readers! I know that my blog has been a little neglected of late. I’m going to have to start scheduling my blog posts a bit better – writing posts a few days in advance, having a list of topics to blog about, etc. It’ll make my life a whole lot easier and means that you all have regular posts to read! A win/win situation! And we all like those now, don’t we?

This week hit me with a couple of curve balls that meant a few things I wanted to do weren’t able to get done. One thing I did do this week was go through some old and new photographs I have on my computer. Boy oh boy, do you forget some of the photographs that have been taken until you find them again! Haha. It always makes me smile though as each photograph tells a story about a time and place in your life. Seeing as I rarely do personal posts, here are a few photos and the stories behind them.

This one was taken by one of my friend’s at my recent birthday celebrations – blowing out the candles on my chocolate loaded birthday cake!

This was one taken the night before one of my friends got married a couple of years ago. I was her make-up artist and, along with her bridesmaid and friend doing her hair, we had a really nice girly weekend that included Pizza Hut, Mamma Mia (we sang along and weren’t meant to), curry and orange peel! Haha. There were some very fun times had.

My second appearance in New York City in Times Square. I was showing my friend and roommate around (it was a week long university trip) and we had been there for a few hours and were feeling jetlagged but had to stay up until a reasonable hour so decided to take a walk. About 15 minutes after this picture was taken we got caught in a torrential downpour on our walk back with one very small umbrella between us! Suffice to say we were soaked by the time we got back to the hotel (which was incidentally a 20 minute walk away) and it had stopped raining by the time we got back, haha!

The obligatory drunken night out and dancing shot from university. The other lovely lady in the photo has been my friend since I started university and is one of my best ones now. This was from another birthday of mine and I had a very enjoyable time as you can probably tell, haha!

And to round off, here’s a baby picture for you. Yes, I am in the boot of the car! Hehe, we’d just had a day skiing and here I am quenching my thirst and not getting the car seat soaking wet!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little trip down memory lane. I’m now going to do more crocheting for some shop products I have lined up and I’ll be back soon with some more posts about the things that have been inspiring me and maybe even a few peeks at the products I have lined up for my Etsy shop launch!! Hooray!!

And don’t forget that if you’re in the London area, the launch for The Last Wednesday Knitting Club is next Wednesday! All the details can be found at the top under the Knitting Club page. It’d be great to see some blogging faces there!

Crafty Foxes is 1!

15 Mar

Katja’s bloggiversary post reminded me that the 13th March 2010 marked the first full year of blogging for this Crafty Fox!! One whole year! When I started I thought that this would be little more than just a small time, once a month thing marking the Crafty Foxes monthly craft group meetings. Boy, was I wrong!

The blog has turned into more than just a hobby but something that has introduced me to new friends and inspirations, kept me in touch with family abroad and provided me with a place to vent (I’ve written a fair few drafts that have been deleted just so I could get some feelings out that needed purging!!). It’s also been a great place to share my dreams, inspirations and friends with new readers and old. The blog has been my diary, my journal, documenting the things I am most proud of or wanting to remember.

The thing I am most humbled by is the fact that people other than my parents and relatives read this. Whenever I receive a lovely new comment in my inbox from a new reader it makes my heart skip a beat knowing that someone has taken the time to do so and have really looked at what my blog has to offer them. I must say I’m guilty of blog surfing most of the time but I understand how it can really make someone’s day when that comment is left. THANK YOU, sincerely from the bottom, middle and top of my heart. You, the blog readers, are what keep me going with this venture and who push me to keep posting about new and interesting things!

Sorry the Sunday Round Up has been hijacked this week but I needed to say thank you and hope that you’ll keep reading for another year! More cake for you!

Pretty Things Friday

29 Jan

I’m a day late! I’m sorry! I had a job interview yesterday (all fingers crossed) and then had to work in the evening at an event so Thursday was a bit of a wash-out so to speak. But I’m here now and ready to share pretty things!

This week I’ve decided to give you a tour of some of my favourite blogs. No, if you’re blog isn’t here and you know I read it, please don’t take it the wrong way! I love you all but if I was to put all of the blogs I read here it would take forever to list them all……..and I wouldn’t have another “blogs I like” blog post to write! Onto round one of some of my favourite blogs…

Elsie’s blog, which I’ve mentioned many times before on here, is one of my favourites. She has to be one of the most inspiring young business women I’ve come across and is in the position I would like to be in come 3 years time (and that’s my maximum time limit). I love Elsie’s illustration and painting style, the tutorials she posts and the hints and tips she gives to those girls and guys like me who are trying to get started but just aren’t sure where to start. A visit to Red Velvet Art (her real-life store) is also on my to-do-list as soon as I save enough money to go on holiday!

Katie’s blog is a more recent favourite. I’m a huge fan of the plush creatures she creates (and I’m standing by my computer for the next update to make sure I can get one of the lovelies!!) and love the style she has created for them. I recently participated in a craft swap Katie hosted and enjoyed it muchly (although I was a bit sad Katie wasn’t my swap partner, hehe, that would have been sooo cool!!). Oh, and if you have a love for vintage dresses and pretty dresses in general you have to go visit her blog!!

Leigh-Ann is another great inspiration for me. I bought one of her photobooth albums from RVA last year and fell in love with her crafting style. Each creation LA makes is unique and wonderful which for me is a huge part of their charm. She is also another good tutorial poster, and is currently holding a worldwide pincushion swap! Sign ups are until 1st February so if you want to take part go put your name down now!

I love Polka Dot Robot: FACT. Vivianna is amazing: FACT. I love the knitted and crocheted wares that the ladies over at PDR make and at some point will get around to actually buying something (specifically the Fox Hat I’ve posted here a few times). Vivs blogs are really inspiring and she’s the person who got me into art journalling and without knowing it, has single handedly made me want to become a better knitter (who wouldn’t want her mad knitting skills?! Hehe).

So that’s the first 4 featured blogs that I think deserve a mention, especially in my pretty things category! If you haven’t been to their blogs before go and visit and show them some love! And if you have, you have amazing taste! I might make this another weekly feature, instead of it encroaching into my other blog posts. It means that I’d be able to feature a lot more blogs on my list and I can have specific features too if someone wants to promote themselves. Tell me what your thoughts are and whether you’d like this feature to become regular!

Well, it’s almost the weekend! Hope you all have a good one and I’ll see you on Sunday!

17 Jan

Today’s Sunday Round Up is going to be posted tomorrow! It’ll be the Monday Sunday Round Up, hehe. I’m honoured yet again to be featured on another person’s blog. It really means a lot and I can’t believe the number of people who’ve already clicked their way over!! Leave some comment love if you do…I like to know what people think!

Pretty Things Thursday

14 Jan

Well, it’s getting late over here and I’m only just getting my Pretty Things Thursday post up. I’ve had a bit of a busy day in terms of being out for a couple of hours and filling out more application forms than I can shake a stick at! First things first though. If you haven’t read my blog post below please go to Janel’s blog, Run With Scissors – I’m one of her featured guest bloggers and have a little giveaway. All you have to do is leave a comment on the post and you’ll be entered! Simples!! Oh, and welcome to all the new readers that have come from her blog!!! I hope you like what you’ve seen!

I will admit I’ve been lagging behind a little bit in finding pretty things. I’ve been busy with my job applications so have been severely limiting my ‘looking at pretty things’ time and using it as a reward for when I get something important done! But I have found a few things that I can share with you today so fear not!!

Cute little squirelly brooches (my woodland animals obsession hasn’t shown any signs of letting up yet!!)

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge Blythe fan but Katie (of Skunkboy Creatures) did a customisation of this one and I love it! Is it strange to want to look like her? Hehe.

Katie also posted this picture on her blog today. It’s one of the cutest pictures I’ve seen in such a long time!! I just want to give the little Scout a hug! He’s such a little dude!! Love it!!

I love the simplicity of the photos Tif takes over at Dottie Angel. And I’m a sucker for the colours she uses and puts together in her crochet and portraits. I’m thinking of making a few garlands myself this year to try and add a bit of simple decoration to my flat.

I am going to make this blog post a short one today as I need to have an early night and be bright and sparky for tomorrow and whatever it brings me (probably more application forms, haha). I’m going to end my evening watching some trashy films (i.e. bad action films not rude ones!!) and carrying on knitting a scarf for my lovely boyfriend. He likes it so far and it should be finished by next week sometime…I’m giving myself a little while longer than most would as I’m still not as quick as seasoned knitters such as my mum and Vivianna!!

Have a great weekend people and I’ll be back on Sunday for the weekly round-up!! And leave some comment love too, I love hearing from my readers!!

When I Grow Up…

12 Jan

I’ve wanted to be sooooo many different things over the years and said the above statement probably more than I can count on my fingers and toes x100! Haha. Possible careers (that I can remember) have included:

Nurse (to follow in my dad’s footsteps)

Arctic Explorer

…zoologist, actor, singer, air hostess, zoo keeper, veterinarian, fashion designer, film-maker. The list goes on and on and on!

But there are a few possibilities that I’ve never really given up on and have stuck with me throughout. Y’know, the old faithfuls that you’ve said more than a few times and to more than a few people. Start my own business, become a teacher and become a librarian. I don’t know about anyone else but I LOOOOVED to play shop when I was younger, pretending that my friends were my most loyal customers on their amazing old school cash registers. And I also loved to pretend that my Barbies and soft toys were my class at school. Most of all I loved to read (and still do when I get the chance and really get into a book). In the last year I’ve been torn between the three careers and have finally decided that it’s about time I give each of them a go. So what am I doing to?

Job Number 1: Start my own business!

This is the year of the Crafty Fox! I’ve finally set myself a realistic goal of starting my craft business this year – it will include a few different areas that I’m very excited about like my first online shop and some other things I can’t go into just yet! But I promise that as soon as I’ve finalised details, you, my beloved blog readers, will be the first to know!

Job Number 2: Become a Teacher

Don’t you just love this image? Haha. Now this goal is slightly harder to do than the others I’ve chosen as it will involve me going back to school myself for a while. My mum has worked in a school for quite a few years so I’ve always been around teachers. My work experience in high school was at a local primary school. One of my old housemates and good friend is in her first year of teaching. But I want to teach secondary school art/textiles/design – a tough one, I know. But I want a challenge in life and I’ve been told that I have the perfect teacher disposition by a few of my mum’s friends!! So this goal won’t be met for a few years but I’m hoping that I do get the chance to teach informally, be it through workshops or tutorials here, as it’s something I really enjoy!

And finally Job Number 3: Become a Librarian

As you may or may not know, I have worked as a bookseller for the last year and a bit. And it was all going well until Borders (in the UK only) decided to go bust. I love books. I always have. Reading was a huge part of my childhood with particular books remaining my favourites to this day! So when my job ended I realised that I wanted to stay working with books and researched a few positions. My mum has been a librarian for over 10 years and I’ve always loved helping her out with any jobs that need doing in her library. She and a few of her friends recently helped me out with my application for a graduate trainee position as a librarian. Now, I’m quite apprehensive about writing this as the closing date isn’t until 28th January and I usually don’t like saying anything about applications. However this time around I could really use some positive vibes!! I really want this and know that I’ll be one of a large group of people applying for 2-4 positions. So prayers and good thoughts are very much appreciated!!!!!

This is a bit of a personal post for me and I appreciate that all of us in blog land always want to know more about each other and why we all make the decisions we do. Hopefully this helps to explain some of it!! Until my next post I hope you all have a good one. And I hope that for some people this helps them to realise that you don’t always have to stick to just one option in life. There are many paths to take and any one could lead you to different experiences that are meant for you.
