Hiya!

7 Nov

I know it’s been pretty quiet around here for a little while. Lots of stuff has happened in my personal life over the last 3 months and to be honest I took a break from a lot of social media because I wanted to and needed to. I’ve been reassessing a lot of things in life and I took the time out to make new friends, spend time with old ones and my family and go to a festival (Bestival – it was AMAZING!).

But now, I’m back. I don’t know how often I’ll be blogging but I want to try and make it worth your while reading when I do. My blog posts will probably be a little more personal too – it’s time people got to know me. The person behind the blog. I know, I’m actually a real-life person who writes this blog! Haha.

So what am I going to try and blog about? I want to write about gay rights, music, crafts, fashion, mental health, knitting, pretty things that I think are pretty and want to share, and so much more! I just hope that you’ll find it all interesting and will keep on reading my little ol’ blog!

Okay, I’m heading off for this evening but I’ll be back soon with a few outfit posts and maybe a few knitting posts too!

Merry Christmas!

23 Dec

Christmas Deer 2.
As most bloggers are doing right now, I’m signing off for a few days or so to spend some quality time with my family and loved ones. Plans changed at the last minute this year so this Christmas is a London Christmas and I’m looking forward to spending it at my home.

Be safe on your travels if you’re going home and enjoy yourself once you’re there! I hope you get everything you could wish for and more. And thank you for reading my blog this year. It means so much to know that people might take something away from here that inspires them or helps them in one way or another.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

A Few Lovelies From The Inty-Web

7 Sep

Hello Foxes and Foxettes!

I have recently been perusing the interweb for the latest lovelies to offer you here at Crafty Foxes Central. You may have seen these on other blogs, you may know of them already from magazines or you may actually be the people I’m featuring (and if that’s the case say hi!). I am slowly changing the look of this blog, introducing new features and integrating into another server eventually (the alphabet is still the deadline for this and I will be continuing with that series soon!!).

In the meantime, enjoy the links and pictures I have found! (Each image can be clicked on to take you through to the artist/crafter/magazine website)

Bindi Booth – just lovely!

Artemis Russell’s wedding photo’s – so amazing!

Nathalie Lete – lovely handtufted rugs that look like paint by numbers pictures!

Louise Evans – she makes Super Duper Things! (Also the name of her Etsy shop!)

Lune Vintage – loving those deer legwarmers!!

Art Equals Happy – I love this picture of Kim! She looks so purdy! (And will probably not agree with me but I don’t care! I Love You and am glad you’re my real life friend!!)

Girls in a Bottle from A Print A Day – In Love!

Frankie 2011 Diary – I’m looking for a new one and would like this one please!

Inga Birgisdottir – Funny illustrations that make me want to take a cut out moustache everywhere with me!! (This image was taken from Creature Comforts blog)

Sophie Blackall – I saw this series featured recently in Oh Comely magazine here in the UK and straight after she has popped up all over the place, on blogs far and wide! I love the owl.

The Gluttonous Vegan – Yum. That is all.

And finally, A Beautiful Mess (Elsie Flannigan) – who doesn’t love plaid and florals in Autumn? The leaves haven’t quite turned yet but there is a chill in the air and it’s raining a lot more here in London. Can’t wait to get myself a nice warm flannel shirt that I can wear with jeans and wool tights and thick woolen skirts!

I do hope you’ve enjoyed these little bits and pieces and I’ll be back soon with more.

Hey!

31 Aug

As you may have noticed, my posting here has been pretty sporadic lately. I’ve been dealing with some personal issues and have recently started a new job as a classroom assistant, which is challenging but enjoyable! It’s giving me new challenges to face each day I’m at work and I know I’m not going to have to deal with repetitive tasks (apart from maybe lesson plans) day in day out. Teaching is something I’ve had an interest in for a long time and I’ve recently made the decision to apply for a PGCE to teach Media Studies to 14-19 year olds! I’m currently in the process of writing out my personal statement and wondering how I can get it down to 47 lines!! Haha. I’ll get there eventually….

I’ve also been busy with my crafty escapades, some of which I’m still planning and some of which are soon-to-be-announced-but-currently-secret-squirrel-business. The only thing I can share is that it is a collaboration with an amazing lady – see if you can guess who it is (although I won’t tell until we decide to go public and you won’t win any prizes, sorry! Haha).

I’ve still been trying to keep up-to-date with all the blogs though and have seen some serious inspiration lately. It’s one thing I love about the blogging community…you’re never far away from something to brighten your day, make you look at things in a new light or spark a really good idea!! A few of my favourite pictures found either via blogs or flickr from the past few weeks…

(By the way, if anyone feels like being generous and buying me this necklace I’ll love you forever and a day! Well, I have to be a little cheeky here, haha! And it’s only $57.50 including shipping to the UK!)

I’ve also been spending quite a bit of time with friends old and new. It’s been great getting out of the house on nice days and wandering around various parts of London, searching for places and objects and coming across random jumble sales and things that would look great in my room/house!

Autumn is almost here too and I’m so in the mood for jumpers and woolly knit hats. And toffee nut lattes. We don’t get pumpkin spice over here which I’m a bit bummed out about but hopefully I’ll get to taste it one day! I’ll be back again soon with more of my alphabet and more posts about what I’m up to! I’ve missed you all and thanks for continuing to visit The Crafty Foxes!

I’m Coming Back Soon

22 Aug

fox family XO.

Life sometimes gets in the way of everything else you want to keep doing. Blogging has been one of the affected areas and I apologise to you all. I hope you’ve been keeping up with all the other blogs out there though – I know I have!

This long break has been needed though and I’ve been able to regroup and regain my creativity again. It’s time to come back again. See you soon!

I did an interview for Holly over at Shopaholly a while ago and it’s finally live! Go check out the interview if you haven’t already HERE. I still don’t think I’m inspiring but hey, that’s just me! Enjoy!

PS. I’ll be back again soon. For reals. Pinky promise.

G is for Good

17 Jul

Good is a word that I don’t like to overuse as I find that after a while it loses it’s meaning but recently (aside from the odd bad day we are all entitled too) things in my life have been good. Not great. Not awful. Just good. It’s been a long time coming so I’m happy with things just going good. For this post, I’ve decided to list all the good things in my life, so I hope you enjoy and can celebrate a few things with me and maybe inspire you to see that good is fine. Good is good!

1) I’ve been making more friends within the crafty community (thank you BUST Craftacular London and The Last Wednesday Knitting Club!) It’s taken me a long time to even feel confident enough to talk to people I admire but once I mustered up the nerve contacts and friendships have occurred. One of the best things about this is that as a new starter in business I now have a nice group of people that I know I can email or call if need be to ask them a question.

2) My products are now available for sale in a retail shop!! Yes, you heard. I have an official stockist in an official real life shop you can walk into and everything!! Haha. I dropped the finished products off today, so as of Monday (I think) you will be able to buy Crafty Foxes handmade accessories at The Shop @ Discover Greenwich. It’s such an exciting thing for me and is part of the reason why I’ve been so absent from here lately. I wanted to put my all into this first order to make sure it was up to standard. I’m at a wee bit of a loss now that I don’t have 20 brooches to hand sew in 3 hours, haha!! From now on though I have the knowledge I need to get me through subsequent orders and re-orders that I can work better and more efficiently.

3) I’m planning a mini craft fair for the end of August. This is as much as I can reveal right now. More information will be here next week! It’s another exciting phase of the Crafty Foxes story!!

4) I have finally been offered a teaching assistant job. It’s 16-24 year olds which scares me a little bit but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s 25 hours a week for 6 months and adds a bit more routine to my life which has been more than a little bit chaotic in the last 6 months. I can’t wait to start and I’ll let you know how my first week goes when it’s done. Hopefully after the initial 6 months is up I’ll be kept on!

5) I had a really good day with my parents today. I haven’t really spent time with both of them for a while so it was nice to be able to. I miss them and don’t visit half as much as I should but they do come to London quite a bit so I’m lucky in that respect. We had a pub lunch that was memorable to say the least (“I’m not stoned anymore!”) but it was nice just to catch up and know that my parents are proud of the hard work I’ve been putting into my business and my products and support me every step of the way.

I hope you, my lovely blog readers, are well and I’ll elaborate on more things over this coming week (craft fair and other exciting announcements). It’s been great seeing that people are still reading during my absence and that my blog is attracting new readers all the time too! Hello and love to you all! I hope you’re having a good weekend!

B is for Blogging

27 May

There was no question as to what ‘B’ stood for in my alphabet! I’ve only really been an active member of the blogging community for about a year and a half but in that year and a half I have found inspiration, motivation and great friendship.

I’m not going to list all my favourite blogs in this post as I already have a pretty comprehensive list in my blogroll links (on the right of this page). I’m not even going to tell my blogging story – that can be saved for another post. So what am I going to do? I’ve decided to post my favourite tutorials and free stuff links from the blogs I read. Some of these you may have come across, some you may not. The blogging community for me isn’t as narcissistic as some people make it out to be. All some people want to do is share ideas, create and inspire and don’t care particularly about getting their 15 minutes in the blogging spotlight through that. And that is what blogging is for me – my way of sharing with my readers/followers/groupies (haha)/or whatever you want to call them, ideas and inspiration and my creative spark, in the hope that it inspires and creates ideas for someone else!

So without further ado here are some of my favourite blog tutorials and free stuff!! (click on the image for link through to project/blog)

Learn how to make your own teepee with a little help from Rachel of Smile and Wave!

Ever wanted to make a silhouette fashionable? With a little help from Chelsea over at Seablanket you can with her amazing tote bag tutorial!

Katrina over at Pugly Pixel has some great free clip art downloads! Who doesn’t love cute vintage paper?
(Please be aware that all her images are for personal use and not intended for commercial use; i.e. Don’t make money by using her designs and saying they’re your own. Bad karma will come your way if you do!)

Create these great polymer clay gift tags with this tutorial over on poppytalk with Mitsy from Artmind. Such a clever way of making a special gift even more personal!

These amazing fabric pumpkins can be made into anything from a plushie to a doorstop! Danielle over at Thompson Family-Life has such an eye for great design! I love these and plan to make them as gifts for people moving house!

Another idea from Mitsy over at Artmind – making your own lottery style scratch cards! It’s such an ingenious idea and a fun way to give a gift such as a personal voucher – Valentine’s Day springs to mind with this one! Hehe.

Some other great places to find tutorials and links to free stuff include the Craftzine blog and Design*Sponge as well as other bloggers regularly posting such as Katja over at maedchenmitherz and Elsie over at A Beautiful Mess.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this letter of my alphabet. I can’t wait to share ‘C’ with you guys – it’s one of my great passions but may not be quite what you were expecting!!

Hope you’re having a great week! And thanks to those of you who have sent well wishes over the past weeks. It’s really appreciated! Oh, and I’m now wisdomless (well, in terms of my teeth anyway!). Recovery going well so far! Happy reading and enjoy the tutorials!

It’s Change All ‘Round!

7 May

After what has been a tough few weeks for me, things are looking better once again. I’m one step closer to getting answers for my illness…this needle-phobe survived another blood test! Wahoo! I was told though that I have wiggly veins, which I take to mean that once they see the needle coming towards them they run away and hide, haha! The phlebotomist had to “fish around” to find it. I definitely felt that part!!

I’m also getting my last two wisdom teeth taken out in a few weeks. No wisdom in old age for me! Haha. I’m not looking forward to the recovery. I remember what it was like last time, but ultimately it means no more uber annoying toothache every few weeks. Hooray! It’ll help with my weight loss too, huzzah! (And before anyone says anything I know it’s not a sensible thing to say or do, I’m just making light of not being able to eat properly for a week!) It also means that I won’t be doing much talking at the next meeting of The Last Wednesday Knitting Club but I’m definitely still coming along. I’m not missing a meeting for anything!!

Things are also changing around here too. I’ve made the decision to move my blog to another host. Whilst I love WordPress and all it has to offer, I’ve found another host that offers what I want in terms of the direction I am currently taking my craft and business in. It’s an exciting time for me right now and I will unveil everything as soon as it is ready……….it won’t be for a while yet as it’s still in the early stages but it is something that will definitely be happening!!

Things are a little hectic right now, but thank you so much for putting up with me during this sometimes difficult, yet exciting time in my life!! I’m feeling a little more relaxed now about my life and I’m finally finding my feet. Thank you for being such supportive blog readers and friends!! I’ll be back soon with more updates and regular features. I hope you’re all well and enjoying life!!

P.S. I couldn’t not mention the UK elections in this. Who’s with me for moving to America? Hehe.
