Pretty Things Thursday (on a Friday)

2 Apr

I realise that I haven’t posted one of these for a little while and I have been finding and saving pictures of lots of pretty things! This post I’m going to let the pictures do the talking so enjoy them.

(This is my first ever illustration completed in Adobe Illustrator – what better for a geeky crafty girl than black rimmed glasses?! Hehe)

And I leave you with my own personal motto…

I just wanted to say thank you for all the visits and comments on my blog lately. They are such a lovely thing to see and read and even if I do not reply to each one of them, please know that I truly appreciate it!! You’re awesome! Hope you all have a happy and fun Easter weekend whatever you’re getting up to!

Pretty Things Thursday

4 Mar

I’m currently typing this with freshly painted nails – they appear to be dry but that is never the case so I’m being cautious!

New nails!

I’ve found a lot of pretty things over the last few weeks – this feature has been absent for personal reasons…I’ve only really been able to update once a week with all the things that have been going on in my life recently! I’ll start off with the most recent pretty things I’ve found…

Pretty cute tee-shirts from Skunkboy Creatures! With an original drawing by Elsie Cake herself!

A pretty picture from Sherri DuPree.

Pretty colour scheme from Giant Dwarf (depending on birthday money situation after Saturday, I shall be purchasing these!!).

Really pretty shoes! I have a crush on brogues at the moment but nowhere near enough money to satiate it! Haha.

Pretty yarn from Debbie Stoller’s new yarn line, Stitch Nation! I’m so bummed it’s only available in the US right now. The colours in the Full o’ Sheep line (hehe, what a great name!, and featured above) are sumptious and I wouldn’t mind a ball of each!

So there are a few pretty things to help get you through this weekend! I may be a little late with my Sunday Round Up this week as IT’S MY BIRTHDAY ON SATURDAY!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! It’s also Katja and Erin’s birthday’s tomorrow so go wish them a happy birthday too! I’m bummed I can’t be at Erin’s Alice In Wonderland themed birthday party in Springfield this weeked (so is Katja) but I’m sure we will all spend a brthday weekend together at some point! Happy Birthday ladies! I’m glad and honoured I’m able to include you in my new circle of friends! Crafty kisses and hugs!

To all you out there, have a great weekend and I hope your week has been good to you!

Pretty Things Thursday – Dresses

12 Feb

I live in my jeans during the winter. They keep me warm and are practical in almost any weather. But Spring is almost here and I’m getting excited about wearing dresses! I do wear them periodically throughout the winter (usually over my jeans) but come Spring, Summer and the warmer part of Autumn, I love dresses with tights, leggings and even the occasional bare leg!

Here are a few pretty delights for you to feast your eyes upon today.

Sorry that this week is again a day late! As I said on Sunday, the tail end of this week has been a little crazy for me and there have been a couple of spanners in the works that have added to that craziness! But today I’m knitting and nearing the end of a project I should have finished in early January, so I’m happy that something will be finished today. It’s been a while since I’ve completed a project.

Hope you’ve all had a good week and see you on Sunday for the round up of this week’s events and inspiration!!

Or, I could just be taken wool shopping at Loop, John Lewis and/or Prick Your Finger!! There’s something I love in each of them!

There are a few other things on my list like vintage buttons and lace doilies and vintage letterpress letters spelling out ‘Crafty Foxes’. I do get a little excited by my birthday and I’m looking forward to it this year. It’ll give me a chance to see friends from around London again who I miss terribly but don’t have enough cash to go visit!

Katja also put a birthday gift list up on her blog (our birthdays are a day apart) so if you’re feeling super generous and want to buy us gifts go check it out! Not that we expect anyone to! It’s more just a huge hint drop to our families, friends and loves! Hehe.

Pretty Things Friday

29 Jan

I’m a day late! I’m sorry! I had a job interview yesterday (all fingers crossed) and then had to work in the evening at an event so Thursday was a bit of a wash-out so to speak. But I’m here now and ready to share pretty things!

This week I’ve decided to give you a tour of some of my favourite blogs. No, if you’re blog isn’t here and you know I read it, please don’t take it the wrong way! I love you all but if I was to put all of the blogs I read here it would take forever to list them all……..and I wouldn’t have another “blogs I like” blog post to write! Onto round one of some of my favourite blogs…

Elsie’s blog, which I’ve mentioned many times before on here, is one of my favourites. She has to be one of the most inspiring young business women I’ve come across and is in the position I would like to be in come 3 years time (and that’s my maximum time limit). I love Elsie’s illustration and painting style, the tutorials she posts and the hints and tips she gives to those girls and guys like me who are trying to get started but just aren’t sure where to start. A visit to Red Velvet Art (her real-life store) is also on my to-do-list as soon as I save enough money to go on holiday!

Katie’s blog is a more recent favourite. I’m a huge fan of the plush creatures she creates (and I’m standing by my computer for the next update to make sure I can get one of the lovelies!!) and love the style she has created for them. I recently participated in a craft swap Katie hosted and enjoyed it muchly (although I was a bit sad Katie wasn’t my swap partner, hehe, that would have been sooo cool!!). Oh, and if you have a love for vintage dresses and pretty dresses in general you have to go visit her blog!!

Leigh-Ann is another great inspiration for me. I bought one of her photobooth albums from RVA last year and fell in love with her crafting style. Each creation LA makes is unique and wonderful which for me is a huge part of their charm. She is also another good tutorial poster, and is currently holding a worldwide pincushion swap! Sign ups are until 1st February so if you want to take part go put your name down now!

I love Polka Dot Robot: FACT. Vivianna is amazing: FACT. I love the knitted and crocheted wares that the ladies over at PDR make and at some point will get around to actually buying something (specifically the Fox Hat I’ve posted here a few times). Vivs blogs are really inspiring and she’s the person who got me into art journalling and without knowing it, has single handedly made me want to become a better knitter (who wouldn’t want her mad knitting skills?! Hehe).

So that’s the first 4 featured blogs that I think deserve a mention, especially in my pretty things category! If you haven’t been to their blogs before go and visit and show them some love! And if you have, you have amazing taste! I might make this another weekly feature, instead of it encroaching into my other blog posts. It means that I’d be able to feature a lot more blogs on my list and I can have specific features too if someone wants to promote themselves. Tell me what your thoughts are and whether you’d like this feature to become regular!

Well, it’s almost the weekend! Hope you all have a good one and I’ll see you on Sunday!

Pretty Things Thursday

21 Jan

I can’t believe that Thursday has come around yet again! January seems to be going by so quickly too, it’s crazy!! I’ve been doing a few things this week but one recurrent activity has been knitting my boyfriend’s scarf. This is what it looks like so far…

Boyfriend's Scarf....so far

I found the pattern on Ravelry (click image for original pattern), which has recently become my best friend EVER! Haha. I’ve been searching specifically for fingerless glove/mitten patterns (and then being distracted by Selbu mittens), as those are the next on my project list. So this Pretty Things Thursday is dedicated to pretty knitting patterns! I’ve found a few patterns I want to try out below.

(Yes, both patterns have been knit with Noro yarn. My current favourite yarn in the whole wide world! Loves!)

I love Totoro and as soon as I’m good enough and learn to knit Selbu mittens these will be mine, all mine!

I absolutely love the colour of these socks and would love to have a pair exactly like these!!

This cute little owly number is for a pair of fingerless mittens. To be honest I really want to start these now, but I know that if I do I’ll become a woman obsessed and won’t finish anything else, haha! So these are a little treat for me for as soon as everything else has been done.

I really love the pattern that’s been created when knitting up this bag and would love to have something like this to carry around in the spring/summer time. Although it would look just as appealing in autumn/winter too!

(All images link to their Ravelry pattern. Most of the patterns are free but require a Ravelry account to access them. Signing up to Ravelry is free so why not do it already? If you haven’t that is, hehe.)

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this Thursday! I’m going to continue with my boyfriend’s scarf and hopefully get it finished by next week sometime. Then I only have another scarf to knit for my brother-in-law, fingerless gloves to crochet for my auntie, and countless hat, scarf and glove projects for both myself and others! Fun times ahead. Yay!

Let me know what WiP’s (works-in-progress) you have right now and link here to any pretty patterns you’ve found lately! I’d love to see them!

Pretty Things Thursday

14 Jan

Well, it’s getting late over here and I’m only just getting my Pretty Things Thursday post up. I’ve had a bit of a busy day in terms of being out for a couple of hours and filling out more application forms than I can shake a stick at! First things first though. If you haven’t read my blog post below please go to Janel’s blog, Run With Scissors – I’m one of her featured guest bloggers and have a little giveaway. All you have to do is leave a comment on the post and you’ll be entered! Simples!! Oh, and welcome to all the new readers that have come from her blog!!! I hope you like what you’ve seen!

I will admit I’ve been lagging behind a little bit in finding pretty things. I’ve been busy with my job applications so have been severely limiting my ‘looking at pretty things’ time and using it as a reward for when I get something important done! But I have found a few things that I can share with you today so fear not!!

Cute little squirelly brooches (my woodland animals obsession hasn’t shown any signs of letting up yet!!)

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge Blythe fan but Katie (of Skunkboy Creatures) did a customisation of this one and I love it! Is it strange to want to look like her? Hehe.

Katie also posted this picture on her blog today. It’s one of the cutest pictures I’ve seen in such a long time!! I just want to give the little Scout a hug! He’s such a little dude!! Love it!!

I love the simplicity of the photos Tif takes over at Dottie Angel. And I’m a sucker for the colours she uses and puts together in her crochet and portraits. I’m thinking of making a few garlands myself this year to try and add a bit of simple decoration to my flat.

I am going to make this blog post a short one today as I need to have an early night and be bright and sparky for tomorrow and whatever it brings me (probably more application forms, haha). I’m going to end my evening watching some trashy films (i.e. bad action films not rude ones!!) and carrying on knitting a scarf for my lovely boyfriend. He likes it so far and it should be finished by next week sometime…I’m giving myself a little while longer than most would as I’m still not as quick as seasoned knitters such as my mum and Vivianna!!

Have a great weekend people and I’ll be back on Sunday for the weekly round-up!! And leave some comment love too, I love hearing from my readers!!

Pretty Things Thursday

7 Jan

IT’S BAAAACK!

Yes. Pretty Things Thursday is making it’s first appearance of 2010. Things have been quite tough as I explained in my last post, and my first week of the New Year was particularly bad but it’s been slowly getting better. And to celebrate this I’ll show you some of the images I’ve found that have been making it get better and prettier!

(Yes, I do have a recent obsession with Noro wool.)

(This photo makes me feel warm and cosy.)

And some pretty fabrics I’ve found on Purl Soho’s website…

It’s been soooo cold here in the UK recently with snow falling almost every single day for the last week in some places. The one message I have for everyone experiencing the cold snap is…

There is nothing worse than being stuck outside in this weather with the wrong kinds of clothing on! I often wonder about those girls (and sometimes guys) who go out on Friday and Saturday in next to nothing in weather like this. When it’s this cold it’s just plain unsafe so if you know someone planning to go out in skimpy clothing tell them to take a pair of jeans and thick socks and a huge-ass coat too! Haha.

But seriously, if you also know an old person who doesn’t like using their electricity in the winter because of rising costs please look after them and take care of them. There are so many elderly people who die every year because they worried about how much their heating would cost them and so didn’t turn it on! I’m thinking of starting a blanket knitting group so extra blankets can be given to those who need them the most in these cold, cold months. If anyone is interested in joining, let me know. Or if you know of any groups out there already who distribute blankets to the homeless and elderly, send me their contact details and ask them yourself if they have a blanket donation scheme running!

Well, that rounds off the first Pretty Things Thursday of 2010!! I hope you enjoyed looking at the pretty things that have been helping me and inspiring me lately! Oooh, one last thing. This recently came into my posession. Suitable for a crafty fox, no? Hehe.

Well, toodle pip for now!!

Pretty Things Thursday

19 Nov

Hello to all you lovely blog readers out there!! This week’s Pretty Things Thursday is full of pretty things I’m coveting right now! And yes, a few of them are from the latest RVA update that happened last night. So let’s begin!!

1)

These are the four items that are on my most wanted list right now. I especially love the DIY Advent Calendar Kit. Such a great idea and as I’m not a huge fan of the chocolate ones anymore, this is definitely something that I want to do!! The sewing machine brooch is another personal favourite as I’m doing more and more on my sewing machine and becoming more confident with using it.

2)

These creatures from Super Ninon have made my heart skip a beat recently. I love the expressions each of the plushies have on their faces! My favourite so far is definitely the foxy(?) lady in the bottom picture. Check out Super Ninon’s stuff on her flickr, her blog and buy these beautiful creations and more from her etsy.

P.S. This purse is my favourite out of all the ones she has in her etsy shop. Isn’t it beautiful?

3)

Rachel’s inspiration wall and boards always inspire me and are always pretty. This is her November wall. Can’t wait to see what December has in store!

4)

My obsession with pompoms will definitely be transferred into my Christmas presents this year and this is the perfect way to incorporate them!!

So this is a short but sweet one as I have to go make my lunch now before I set off to work! I hope you’ve enjoyed these pretty things as much as I have! Have a great Thursday – what have you got planned?

Pretty Things Thursday

12 Nov

I’m early with this one today as it’s back to work time for me after two whole weeks of nothing! No-one looks forward to going back to work but we all have to do it!! So, I’m going to kick off straight away as there are a few things I have to do before I go to work and I don’t want to miss this week!! (click on images for credit/links)

1)

This lovely print and notebook are from an artist called Alice Melvin. I found her stuff at the Tate Modern yesterday and subsequently fell in love. Particularly with this…

Yes those are owl hand and finger puppets that you cut out and sew together. I’m determined once payday comes to own this (owl obsession – CHECK! Haha).

2)

Dottie Angel

Dottie Angel Studio

Tif over at Dottie Angel has provided me with hours and hours of inspiration lately. I love just looking though her photos on flickr as they’re just really pretty and she has quite a few good little ideas on there too. I’ve been uhmming and aahing about whether to join her “challenge of an utmost kind” and have decided to take the plunge in the new year. This is the challenge if you also choose to accept…

3)

Pretty colours

I love the colours in this photo. Janel posted it earlier this week and I fell in love. Also, it’s a picture of wool and granny squares. What’s NOT to love? Hehe.

4)

Penguin ornament

I’m majorly in love with everything Katie over at Skunkboy Creatures makes right now. Her ornaments are the cutest things in the world as are the rest of her plushies. I dream of one day having a small (okay, large) collection of her plushies in a corner of my craft room as inspiration to make really cute things!!

So that is all for this week. I could add more but then I’d not have anything left to blog about on Pretty Things Thursday next week!!! Hope everyone has had a good week and is looking forward to fun plans this weekend.
