Hiya!

7 Nov

I know it’s been pretty quiet around here for a little while. Lots of stuff has happened in my personal life over the last 3 months and to be honest I took a break from a lot of social media because I wanted to and needed to. I’ve been reassessing a lot of things in life and I took the time out to make new friends, spend time with old ones and my family and go to a festival (Bestival – it was AMAZING!).

But now, I’m back. I don’t know how often I’ll be blogging but I want to try and make it worth your while reading when I do. My blog posts will probably be a little more personal too – it’s time people got to know me. The person behind the blog. I know, I’m actually a real-life person who writes this blog! Haha.

So what am I going to try and blog about? I want to write about gay rights, music, crafts, fashion, mental health, knitting, pretty things that I think are pretty and want to share, and so much more! I just hope that you’ll find it all interesting and will keep on reading my little ol’ blog!

Okay, I’m heading off for this evening but I’ll be back soon with a few outfit posts and maybe a few knitting posts too!

If I was to…

14 May

…own any pair of shoes, it would be these lovelies from Swedish Hasbeens

…to go out dancing, I’d want to have this red vintage purse from Bucket Tree in my clutches

…buy an heirloom, it would be this gold and black diamond fox neckalce from Rust

…have a child, he or she would wear this awesome cardigan from Antik Batik

…get married, I would wear one of these dresses from Saja

…own my first house, it would look like this one

…and would have this on the wall

…and would put this on my kitchen table

…and would have this over my knees as I sat watching DVDs or listening to vinyl records

A Little Bit of Romance

2 May

Now, we all know that it’s coming up to the wedding season and there has already been one HUGE wedding that everyone celebrated here in the UK. My manager and I decided to get into the romantic spirit of things this weekend and organised a Kissing Bench outside The Travel Bookshop (where I work). The premise of the idea was to ask couples, friends, families and others to post pictures of themselves re-interpreting the balcony kiss from Kate and William’s wedding last Friday and boy oh boy, were the results amazing! All of the kissers who we took pictures of or who posted them on our Facebook page have gone into a draw to win some lovely prizes (the winner will be chosen tomorrow, 3rd May). To help us choose the winner, please ‘Like’ your favourite photograph on our Facebook page!!

Here are a few of my personal favourites!!!

Franco and Teresa – he was such a suave old Italian man!! We loved him!

Chris and Lauren – very sweet couple!!

Gabriella and Simone made Andy a very happy man!!

This weekend has been such a lovely one – full of love and laughs and happiness! A big thank you goes out to everyone who decided to kiss for us as well! They are brilliant and if we could give prizes to everyone we would! So go and choose your favourite to help make our choosing of the winner a bit easier!

PS. Sorry for the lack of posts here – I’m coming back soon. Just a few more tweaks and things will be ready to start again! Thank you for sticking around!! xxx

Birthday Wishlist: Part Deux

17 Feb

With only two weeks to go, these are a few of the more pricey gifties I would L-O-V-E to receive and would be eternally grateful for…

A subscription to Frankie Magazine too keep me in the loop with the Australian crafty and fashion scenes…

Issue 8 of Uppercase Magazine and a subscription if it could be arranged…

This gorgeous print from Pretty Little Thieves…. (Side Note: If anyone can find headphones like the ones she’s wearing, I will love you forever!!)

Any of these gorgeous one of a kind headbands from Ban.Do’s Black Label – I think all of these ones have sold which is a shame but hopefully next time!

I can’t believe that in just over 2 weeks I’ll be 25. I know it’s not a big age, like 30, 40, 50 or 60 but it’s one of those birthday’s that you want to remember as you’ve finally got to the finish line of that first quarter of your life (if you live to 100 that is!!)

There are a few exciting things going on around here and on the Wednesday Knit blog soon, so keep your eyes peeled over the coming days for a few announcements and a return to your regular blogging schedule!!

Queenslanders Are Tough…

6 Feb

…but how much can one state take? Right after the devastating floods that affected my hometown of Rockhampton and the cities of Brisbane, Towoomba and others where I have friends and family living, Cyclone Yasi decides to strike Far North Queensland including the cities of Innisfail, Cairns and Townsville where I have another load of friends and family living! Thank whoever you want that they all got through these disasters with no major injury but they are all suffering from the after effects – no power and damage to their houses and other belongings.

They aren’t the only ones though and many others have lost not only their houses and livelihoods but loved ones also. The damage caused will take a long time to resolve but we in the blogging community can help. Please, if you can, donate a small amount of money to the Queensland Disaster Relief Appeal – it really will make a difference to many people. In Innisfail, the banana and sugar cane crops have been completely devastated. This industry provides a huge amount of work to residents, some of whom are my family! Donations will help to get the farms back in some working order, ready to get the new crops growing and ready to sell again!

The one thing that makes this very real for me is that I know these places. I’ve lived in some of them. I’ve visited others many times. I’ve experienced the tropical storms that have been affecting my home state. Us Queenslanders are tough, but sometimes we need a helping hand. And right now, we need more than one! So please help if you can. It will truly be appreciated and put to good use!

The First Quarter Century

30 Jan

In just over a month I will be able to tick a new box whenever I have to fill out a survey. Yep, 25 is almost here! It’s quite a big birthday and I’m looking forward to it – I’m having a fancy dress party that I’ll elaborate on soon!

As we all do with our birthday’s and Chistmas’s, I’m creating a birthday wishlist of a few items I’ve seen around the blogosphere.

This lovely Recycled Canvas Tote Bag from ForestBound is definitely one of my top items. I’ve been after a new handbag for a long, long time and I’ve fallen in LOVE with this one.

I’ve also fallen in love with Trixie Delicious’s amazing “vandalized vintage”. This plate is one of my favourites but the Crack House Plate and Hussy/Floozy Teacups are also high up on my list of wants!

This Ashley G print, entitled ‘Knitty, Knitty’ is one that I really want to hang up on my wall. By now, you will know of my knitting obsession and my 2 knitting groups so this is an entirely appropriate birthday want! Hehe.

I’m a long-term fan of Spinthread’s creations and this lovely hand-embroidered geometric triangle necklace is longing to be worn around my neck!

So those are a few of my wishlist choices. I thought it might be good to split this into 2 posts (makes it sound like I have LOADS of wishlist items when I only have about 8-10!)

I hope you are all well and enjoying this year so far. Can’t believe that it’s the end of January already! Enjoy this week! I’ll be knitting!

My Absence Is Making My Heart Grow Fonder

16 Jan

Regular blog readers may have noticed that I have been absent since just before New Year. This is for good reason as my family is currently dealing with the sudden loss of my brother-in-law. He was an awesome and amazing man and had truly been like a brother to me over the past 7 years. The past couple of weeks have been spent planning various things that need to be done and I’ve also moved house in this time too.

Friday marks his funeral and wake and in true-to-form-style, all the friends and family are dressing up 80’s style! It’s what he would have wanted and is seriously up the right alley! I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for a funeral! Haha!

The Wednesday Knit² knitting group also happened last Wednesday and that also went well! I’m so excited for the next one and can’t wait for the return of The Last Wednesday Knitting Club at the end of this month! But until then, I will love you and leave you and wish you all a happy and productive week!

Business as Usual

28 Dec

I can’t believe Christmas is over for yet another year! I hope everyone had a restful and lovely Christmas. Mine was anything but. If you follow me on Twitter you will know that my Christmas plans were cancelled last minute due to my brother-in-law being in hospital and subsequently needing an emergency operation on Christmas Eve night/Christmas Day morning for something that could have been potentially life threatening. All the positive vibes, prayers and thoughts people sent must have worked somehow as when they went in to operate the problem wasn’t as severe as they thought it would be and they didn’t have to do as much invasive surgery. It made for a very different Christmas to say the least! I think between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day my family and I got about 10 hours sleep collectively. His progress now is stable and he’s recovering well. Touch wood it continues without the bumps his past surgery recoveries have had. Positive vibes and prayers would be very much appreciated still as he’s not out of hospital or the woods yet and my family and I remain grateful for everyone’s kind words.

Onto Christmas Day itself though. Apart from having little to no sleep whatsoever, as soon as we knew my brother-in-law was out of surgery and in recovery the day went a lot smoother. Present opening started with Santa Sacks and as soon as everyone was awake the tree presents got opened. A tradition in my family (that has been going on for as long as anyone can remember) is that we can open Santa Sacks before anyone else wakes up but tree presents have to be opened with everyone in the family there. These were a few of my gifts.

Santa bought me these!!! I wonder what the other part may be....YAY 1

Hunter Wellies!!!! Yay!!

YAY 2Smelling Sweet.

YAY 3

YAY 4First Attempt at Fair Isle Knitting!

YAY 5

All in all a pretty good haul and I can’t wait to use my Holga! So excited about that! This Christmas made me realise more than ever how important family and loved ones are and I’m just glad to have mine around! Next stop for me is 2011. This year of 2010 has been the worst year on record for me and I can’t wait to see the back of it. But that is for another blog post before the New Year where I will be rounding up my year and my hopes for next year.

So I hope you all have some great new toys to be playing with, assembling and/or wearing after Christmas and will be back before the week (AND YEAR!!) is out.

PS. You may notice I’m changing the look of the blog. It’s part of my “out with the old, in with the new” kick I’m having right now. New things are great!

All of these photos are from my iPhone and have been edited using Instagram. The best way to explain it is that it’s like Twitter and Flickr mixed together without the spam and with cool editing features integrated into it. I love it and can’t stop using it! My favourite app so far!

I’m busy knitting Christmas presents at the moment hence why I haven’t posted since the beginning of the month but hopefully after Christmas I’ll have lots to blog about and we can resume the blogging year once again! I hope you’re all well and having a happy holiday season!
