A Few Lovelies From The Inty-Web

7 Sep

Hello Foxes and Foxettes!

I have recently been perusing the interweb for the latest lovelies to offer you here at Crafty Foxes Central. You may have seen these on other blogs, you may know of them already from magazines or you may actually be the people I’m featuring (and if that’s the case say hi!). I am slowly changing the look of this blog, introducing new features and integrating into another server eventually (the alphabet is still the deadline for this and I will be continuing with that series soon!!).

In the meantime, enjoy the links and pictures I have found! (Each image can be clicked on to take you through to the artist/crafter/magazine website)

Bindi Booth – just lovely!

Artemis Russell’s wedding photo’s – so amazing!

Nathalie Lete – lovely handtufted rugs that look like paint by numbers pictures!

Louise Evans – she makes Super Duper Things! (Also the name of her Etsy shop!)

Lune Vintage – loving those deer legwarmers!!

Art Equals Happy – I love this picture of Kim! She looks so purdy! (And will probably not agree with me but I don’t care! I Love You and am glad you’re my real life friend!!)

Girls in a Bottle from A Print A Day – In Love!

Frankie 2011 Diary – I’m looking for a new one and would like this one please!

Inga Birgisdottir – Funny illustrations that make me want to take a cut out moustache everywhere with me!! (This image was taken from Creature Comforts blog)

Sophie Blackall – I saw this series featured recently in Oh Comely magazine here in the UK and straight after she has popped up all over the place, on blogs far and wide! I love the owl.

The Gluttonous Vegan – Yum. That is all.

And finally, A Beautiful Mess (Elsie Flannigan) – who doesn’t love plaid and florals in Autumn? The leaves haven’t quite turned yet but there is a chill in the air and it’s raining a lot more here in London. Can’t wait to get myself a nice warm flannel shirt that I can wear with jeans and wool tights and thick woolen skirts!

I do hope you’ve enjoyed these little bits and pieces and I’ll be back soon with more.

Collection Loves

29 Mar

Everyone has their collections. Some people love toy cameras like Holga, Diana and Polaroid…

Other people love fabrics – ginghams, florals, block colours and Japanese prints…

Me? Well my collections revolve around a few key areas.

Buttons…

These are a few of my favourite buttons I’ve bought/found/been given over the last couple of years. I love it when I find big cards of vintage buttons for amazingly cheap prices (like the one in the middle was about £3!!). The antique market at Spitalfields has to be one of my new favourite places to find vinatge buttons. Covent Garden market is good also.

Postcards…

Postcards have been in my collectors box for quite a while. When I was at university I often used to go to the Kingston Antique Market and rifle through the boxes and boxes of old postcards they had. I also picked up a few when I was in Paris a few years ago that I absolutely love. The thing I like most about vintage postcards are the messages that are sometimes written on them. One I found in Paris had a message from one girl to another along the lines of making sure she showed her “appreciation” to her husband when he came back from his army service! Hehe.

Wool…

Everyone knows I love wool. It’s not so much something I collect to keep and look at but I do tend to buy a skein if it’s in a particularly attractive colour and I can afford it! All of the skeins will be used for projects though, it’s just deciding what I want to make with them that’s the problem!

and Notebooks…

All bar two of the above notebooks have something written in them. Most I have bought, others I have been given for free or have been freebies at events I have gone to. I used to work for Paperchase and received quite a nice staff discount which meant that I built up quite to collection. I can go for months without buying any but then sometimes there will be a few I see in quick succession and I’ll get all of them! Each notebook that I use is filled with things from personal thoughts and poems to business ideas and plans. They all have a purpose and help me to keep things in my life organised.

A couple of other areas I collect in include stickers and stamps. I have quite a few sticker albums from my childhood that I can’t bear to throw away and have found some sweet stickers in them too, after looking back through them as an adult. My stamp collecting was something I also did during the majority of my childhood  – I’m not a philatelist as I do not/never studied the stamps (philately is the study of stamps), but I enjoyed finding and receiving new stamps. It’s why I had so many penpals during my late tween (I hate that word so much) and early teen years. I also have a few first issues amongst my collection (they were my special treats from my parents and grandparents usually).

So there you go! A few little collections for you that I thought I would finally share with you all!

On a completely different note, I now have 2 blogs!! If you are interested in London, walking and style, Urban Glambling will surely be a must read for you. My sister and I have been urban rambling around London for just over a month now and we decided to set up a blog as a way to document each of our trips. It’s currently a blog-in-progress so excuse the lack of posting – we’ll soon have it looking amazing!

I hope you all had a good weekend and have a great week planned ahead! The Last Wednesday Knitting Club launches this Wednesday at The Travel Bookshop, and I’m very excited and will be baking to provide some tasty treats to those who come along! Eeeek! Hehe. Please come along if you get the chance, it’ll be lovely to meet some of the London blogging community!

Anyway, that is all for now. See you back here soon!

Blog Feature: Our.City.Lights

17 Mar

I’ve decided to do a small featurette this week about one of my favourite blogs, our.city.lights. If you ever want a good, intelligent blog read, this blog is for you.

Diana is the creative mastermind behind our.city.lights and is a woman who seemingly has a knack and eye for photography. I was lucky enough to receive a preview print (above) of her photographs on an amazing new paper, Kodak Metallic Endura Paper. Now, 3D is one of those terms that is being tossed around nowadays – mainly in the film industry with the release of films such as Alice in Wonderland and Avatar. But in photography? I wouldn’t have thought so until I saw this print. The Metallic Endura Paper, for me anyway, literally makes the image jump out of the flat paper. I’ve never seen such depth to a photograph as I have with this paper. It’s definitely a step in the right direction, Diana!! And my boyfriend loves it too!!

Diana also has 2 etsy shops. Yes, two!! The first is her own  – city.light Photography, and features all of her wonderful photographs in print, card and paper form. Here are a few of the images available…

Number two is a more recent venture with Naomi of the gluttonous vegan – a little shop called ohsewdreamy, where they sell cute embroideries. Now we all know I have a soft spot for woodland creatures so these deer embroideries currently for sale in their etsy shop are exactly what my house needs to spruce it up!! If only I had those extra pounds in my pocket right now….

So if you haven’t been over to Miss Diana’s blog or shops yet, GO NOW!!!! Hehe, seriously an inspiring and intelligent lady that I’m grateful to have come across and hopefully will become great friends with. And Diana, I’ll be your guinea pig anytime!!! Hehe.

Crafty Foxes is 1!

15 Mar

Katja’s bloggiversary post reminded me that the 13th March 2010 marked the first full year of blogging for this Crafty Fox!! One whole year! When I started I thought that this would be little more than just a small time, once a month thing marking the Crafty Foxes monthly craft group meetings. Boy, was I wrong!

The blog has turned into more than just a hobby but something that has introduced me to new friends and inspirations, kept me in touch with family abroad and provided me with a place to vent (I’ve written a fair few drafts that have been deleted just so I could get some feelings out that needed purging!!). It’s also been a great place to share my dreams, inspirations and friends with new readers and old. The blog has been my diary, my journal, documenting the things I am most proud of or wanting to remember.

The thing I am most humbled by is the fact that people other than my parents and relatives read this. Whenever I receive a lovely new comment in my inbox from a new reader it makes my heart skip a beat knowing that someone has taken the time to do so and have really looked at what my blog has to offer them. I must say I’m guilty of blog surfing most of the time but I understand how it can really make someone’s day when that comment is left. THANK YOU, sincerely from the bottom, middle and top of my heart. You, the blog readers, are what keep me going with this venture and who push me to keep posting about new and interesting things!

Sorry the Sunday Round Up has been hijacked this week but I needed to say thank you and hope that you’ll keep reading for another year! More cake for you!

Pretty Things Friday

29 Jan

I’m a day late! I’m sorry! I had a job interview yesterday (all fingers crossed) and then had to work in the evening at an event so Thursday was a bit of a wash-out so to speak. But I’m here now and ready to share pretty things!

This week I’ve decided to give you a tour of some of my favourite blogs. No, if you’re blog isn’t here and you know I read it, please don’t take it the wrong way! I love you all but if I was to put all of the blogs I read here it would take forever to list them all……..and I wouldn’t have another “blogs I like” blog post to write! Onto round one of some of my favourite blogs…

Elsie’s blog, which I’ve mentioned many times before on here, is one of my favourites. She has to be one of the most inspiring young business women I’ve come across and is in the position I would like to be in come 3 years time (and that’s my maximum time limit). I love Elsie’s illustration and painting style, the tutorials she posts and the hints and tips she gives to those girls and guys like me who are trying to get started but just aren’t sure where to start. A visit to Red Velvet Art (her real-life store) is also on my to-do-list as soon as I save enough money to go on holiday!

Katie’s blog is a more recent favourite. I’m a huge fan of the plush creatures she creates (and I’m standing by my computer for the next update to make sure I can get one of the lovelies!!) and love the style she has created for them. I recently participated in a craft swap Katie hosted and enjoyed it muchly (although I was a bit sad Katie wasn’t my swap partner, hehe, that would have been sooo cool!!). Oh, and if you have a love for vintage dresses and pretty dresses in general you have to go visit her blog!!

Leigh-Ann is another great inspiration for me. I bought one of her photobooth albums from RVA last year and fell in love with her crafting style. Each creation LA makes is unique and wonderful which for me is a huge part of their charm. She is also another good tutorial poster, and is currently holding a worldwide pincushion swap! Sign ups are until 1st February so if you want to take part go put your name down now!

I love Polka Dot Robot: FACT. Vivianna is amazing: FACT. I love the knitted and crocheted wares that the ladies over at PDR make and at some point will get around to actually buying something (specifically the Fox Hat I’ve posted here a few times). Vivs blogs are really inspiring and she’s the person who got me into art journalling and without knowing it, has single handedly made me want to become a better knitter (who wouldn’t want her mad knitting skills?! Hehe).

So that’s the first 4 featured blogs that I think deserve a mention, especially in my pretty things category! If you haven’t been to their blogs before go and visit and show them some love! And if you have, you have amazing taste! I might make this another weekly feature, instead of it encroaching into my other blog posts. It means that I’d be able to feature a lot more blogs on my list and I can have specific features too if someone wants to promote themselves. Tell me what your thoughts are and whether you’d like this feature to become regular!

Well, it’s almost the weekend! Hope you all have a good one and I’ll see you on Sunday!
